All very good, and accurate points.

But I think he just wants to haul freight !!!!

And if he looks hard enough, he can do that !!!!!

Personally, I'd stay away from OTR if possible..........

All good points so far...except for the arguing from the OP with all the answers he/she got....isn't that just typical?!

One post started on the main point I caught (but didn't follow through, so I will) Receiving (or Possession of) Stolen Property! I can't believe you all passed this one...the OP has a proven (tried and convicted) history of the biggest NO NO in this industry. What company, even the little mom and pops, want someone that has a past in stolen property...it shows that he/she has connections to transacting in stolen goods.

Does anyone else see the main issue today....SECURITY, SECURITY, SECURITY...we can't even stop to help out another trucker on the break down...the load might get hijacked..(just like many threads here).

Oregon, and in my 30s.. I called about the twic card and thats not a problem. Also hauling first class mail via an out source is not a problem. Also fedX is not a problem, called them yesterday.

I'm actualy starting to feel a little more positive.

As far as the guy who talked about how my felonies are supposed to discourage others from following, all I can say is I would never go around in public advertising my misstakes with any hope of others not following in my foot steps. I was 18, stupid. How long is that supposed to follow someone around? Life time?

It does not discourage me from doing something that I would otherwise not do, all that does is tell me that the public would rather pay 150k a year to support me rather than me work to support my self.

As far as a pardon in oregon I was denied because I stilled owed fines and had not sought to have them expunged. I never tried having them expunged because I knew it would be an automatic NO since I have not had the fines paid.

Upon graduation I will have Doubles, tripples, Hazmat etc. Basicly everything but a twic card which is like 130 something. I plan on getting that on my own. Hopefully some of these companies will see I was able to get everything and give me a shot. Otherwise I don't mind working for a cr england type company for a year to get my foot in the door.

Sure there will be some doors closed based on #### I did 15 years ago but what ever Theres plenty of GOOD paying truck driving jobs that look beyound misstakes 15 years past.

Oh you're just so funny arent you, you act as though this is something I did for years and years when you say " track record and history"

15 years since then and not so much as a traffic ticket. What does that tell you? That I'm some dangerous guy who wants to steal stuff? Geez I used wonder why so many people getting out of prison land right back up again.
Sure theres a good portion of them that don't want to work and rather deal drugs etc but you ever stop to think about the people who are out there looking for work, especialy jobs not handling cash or such?

Yup, 15 years with out a ticket and I just can't wait to get a load of fritos so I can hawk them on the street and go back to prison...

    You sir are an ######.

lol you know whats really F'ed up about my life? Its that I hate the left, the far left yet I'm the type of guy they embrace. I love the right, live my live as a traditional American but apparently the right hates me.. How F'ed up is that.

Oh yea I don't take any source as the end all for information. You can believe any question I ask here for the most part is asked elsewhere as well. Theres not much arguing with asking about something like getting my TWIC card, "being told NO here on this forum " than calling them today , describing exactly what it was I did 15 years ago and being told by the TWIC service agent on the phone that I would have no problems getting it.

You can't blame me for comming here to set the record straight. Oh and all you old timers noticing me debating the " felony aspect of landing a trucking job" ? I'm not arguing trucking laws, rules etc. I never once have acted like I know it all. Not to mention having to deal with people who throw their own personal feelings of " felons don't deserve good work " attitude. Well guess what I'm going to land a job, its not going to be the best but ###### I bet you anything in 5 years I'll be making the same or more than some non felon running the same states.

man I never understood this attitude that once you messed up your scared for life. Bull ####.

You're the one who asked the questions, but obviously you don't like the answers, and since YOU have all the answers, why ask the question? Also YOU are the one who would rather take the word of a recruiter, and an "instructor", over the opinions from those of us that have been through, and live with, the REALITY of what is going on in this industry.

Your "recent history" of the previous 15 years, only means that you haven't gotten caught doing anything wrong. It doesn't prove that you haven't tried. And since you claim the "incidents" happened when you were 18, and now you have matured so much, and are the "model citizen", but your fines from 15 years ago still aren't paid...why not Mr. Responsible?

Company recruiters, just like driving school recruiters lie...we all know that...and school instructors are not only teachers of basic knowledge, but have a directive to keep the PAYING STUDENT happy and upbeat thinking they can and will get into this industry without a hitch...in other words PROMOTERS! they all will tell you what YOU WANT TO HEAR...and that is not necessarily the truth, but it is what YOU WANT TO HEAR!

You see...we don't have any investment in YOU, we could care less if you can get a job or not in this industry...but we are honest enough to tell you the truth. But you are so typical of the "Zero Generation", your teachers throughout your school years couldn't let you fail, your parents couldn't let you fail and learn the lesson of the right way to do things, you had to find out the hard way with prison and a life of being an ex-felon...well buddy boy, live with it, and live with the fact that you have a past and that past is going to keep you from doing SOME things. And because of that past you fall into a category of "citizens" that must compete with other citizens that don't have a felonious past nad will have some other doors open for them that you won't.

As the line from a well known movie goes....YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH"!:biggrin_25510:

Gen X, get that straight and Despite the non caring factor, I've ran into plenty of people like you who hate to see someone who has made some misstakes get ahead in life. As far as the fines go, I made it a point to not pay them. If I couldent find a decent paying job than I'm not going to pay them. Simple as that. Oh I guess despite finishing my degree at PSU and two associates.

I do believe you about the recruiters and instructors however when I have the owner of the school show me a list of contacts that place their graduates I have to ponder a minute at the thought of working for one of them and you can believe that my school knows all about my record.

The whole arguement of 15 years with out getting caught is moot as I could argue than people with clean records never got caught. The point is I've not had one run in with the law peirod.

When the fines are paid I'm more than happy to have them expunged but the fines won't get paid one penny until I have a good paying job. Nice try rubbing it in but I'm only peaved when I get turned down for work, these felonies never get in the way with who I talk to, network with or what I do for sports. hehe yup I have a few tools left to me from my late father.

Yup, I don't even have a tat and never been to prison. Just had 3 years probation and a heafty fine. I can handle the truth when its actualy told straight. But when I'm told I couldent get my TWIC or Hazmat endorsements / card than finding out I could I gotta wonder how much info here is legit.

Ps old man, go to bed, its obviously past your bed time and you are being very grumpy.

You know the naming of whatever generation you belong to is not the point, the point is that since MY generation (tail end of the baby boomers), no group has had to work, or learned a decent work ethic...and this ideology of "can't fail, or live without, started with MY generation...but has gotten far worse as each generation passes. For your information, I made mistakes too when I was young, and have paid the price for the mistakes. Don't assume to know or understand me, or accuse ME of not wishing success to those who deserve it...no matter what their background is.

With these statements, you prove yourself to NOT be a good citizen. You show no respect for the laws in place in this country, yet you do want, and do blame society for YOUR mistakes. You have decided that WE, owe you something because YOU can't have everything given to YOU. There are many out there, that paid their fines and penalties working two or more minimum wage jobs...evidently NOT YOU!

Yes, this is evident that you are a learned person...(that is pronounced learn--ed BTW). If only your cognitive functions included spelling and grammar...that was taught in grade school, high school, and college...English 101 and English 102 at the college level. Along with Creative Writing courses, as well as Drama and Debate!

Can you really, in all honesty, think that a business owner, doesn't have "contacts" connected with what he does for business and his personal living? These "contacts" you refer to, are they also recruiters from trucking companies, or the owners of the companies? And just because the school knows about your prior legal history, do you honestly believe that they would endanger their future by disclosing YOUR personal information in regard to your background? Every company YOU apply to will do a Personal Background check, but only after they have YOUR signed authorization to do so...they will not use the information from a "third party" as reference to YOUR background. And are these "graduates" from your school, that have been "placed" the same, and equal to YOUR background...maybe they are, but likely they aren't!

If you have "not had one run in with the law period"...then why are you claiming 3 felonies, and 3 years probation? To win a debate, you shouldn't sink your own ship trying to stay afloat!

Once the fines are paid, they won't need to be expunged...the conviction can be though...but a pardon carries more weight!

Nobody was rubbing anything in...the truth does tend to sting a bit though! Of course the felonies never get in the way...talk doesn't pay the bills...unless you do a radio show. Networking doesn't pay many bills either, and obviously you aren't in professional sports, otherwise, you wouldn't be looking into trucking for employment!

Good deal...learn how to use them!

Bragging rights? Don't try using these wondrous qualifications in a biker bar...won't get you any support there either!
The truth is always told straight. Handle it!

Is that so...and yuo have both of these in your possession right now? Didn't think so...maybe you should apply first and show the proof of what you believe after they have been issued to you. Because, once again you are just taking someones word over some other word without proof and fact in evidence.

All advice given has been from individuals separate understanding of rules and regs. Interpretation of these rules and regs differs with each individual, just as qualifications for these documents will be left to the interpretation of the clerk processing your information you provide on your application. In one State the documents could be issued, but in another State, they could be denied. If you get my meaning.

ps> That part about truck schools wanting to keep their students positive and happy may be true however they got nothing to lose by not keeping me happy in telling me of places that will hire me starting out around 750 a week ( after additional training )

You see, your tax dollars are paying everything for me to go to school. Thats right, everything. My testing , cdl testing, hazmat testing etc. Pretty much everything but the TWIC card.

So you see they lose nothing, you already paid my tuition for schooling.

Oh and I get to claim Employment benefits while going to school for a month lol. So I guess when I start driving from Portland to LA several times a month hauling hazmat materials making decent money you can continue to sit and be grumpy and old. Don't forget in a few years your age will have more restrictions than my felonies :) I guess its hard to handle the truth

Most of the blame is insurance. If it was the public you would not have the endorsments.

Yes, people make mistakes and learn, but many don't and that is what makes it harder for people with records. Good luck and thanks for sharing your experiance. Maybe a young person will read your story and understand more about the real world.

I'm not going to even go into dyslexia with words as thats another story. Either way again with your old man wit naming off drama as a possible degree I obtained. "Bachelors of science in communications" was the degree I spoke of and the tools are 6 guns and Yea sometimes I would love to use them but right now they sit in a chest at my house until I have my record expunged. While a pardon carrys more weight it really " again" is a moot point as expunged = errased from state record and no longer counting again me.

As far as the fines I simply refuse to pay them while on a min wage job. I was 18 years old I purchased stolen sunglasses 1 felony and the secound one I was simply with my 17 year old friend who had stolen a fish finder out of depot bay. Since it was in MY car and while with him and him being 17 I am the one who got into trouble for it.

While in court it was plea inocent and wait in jail for 2 weeks or plea guilty get a fine and probation and get out of jail. The people who it was stolen from were nice enough to tack on about 4-5 salmon fishing poles that were never taken or discovered. Thus while I'm more than happy to take my time paying the fine while continuing to be a fine upstanding citizen.

Either way I have a bright future ahead of me. I will find work because I know the trucking industry is full of people with felonies driving the roads. Sure it might be a few extra aplications filled out but oh well, I will have work.

Now lets get this straight here.

Salem oregon, purchasing 7 pairs of stolen sunglasses from another kid in high school. I go to jail for less than 24 hours upon being charged, released and given a court date. I than get a secound felony for driving with my buddy whole stole a fish finder in depot bay.

I KNEW that he had it but still took the chance. I knew it was stolen and still allowed it in my car.

I get arrested , released and given a court date. I go back to first court date and am given 3 years probation and given a court fine of 890 dollars.
I get a FTA on secound court date and end up in jail for 1 week waiting to plea guilty. I was told if I plea guilty they would give time served, 3 years probation to run concurrent with my first charge and not have to wait several weeks for a court date should I decide to plea inocent.

Yea 18 years old, I still gotta live with it but think about it for just a minute if you were an employer, because most employers WILL ask about the situation.

Anyone who has ever had run ins at a younger age knows dam well what I'm talking about when your told "plea guilty get out today or plea inocent and wait 2 weeks in jail" First thing any 18 year old with out bail will do it plea guilty.

You're right I get pissy on this subject but thats on the forum. I learned about a year ago one can't get pissy with a possible employer when they say no. Ya gotta look at it from their perspective however the MORE education, endorsements, training I get the better my chances will be.

Mays website says felonies must be 5 years old. I called and spoke to Leona and she told me at this time their only entertaining 1 felony but last year more were ok depending on what it was and how long ago.

Some or many ( ask me after I've applied to 50 and been turn down ) companies change depending on the need. I know people with felonies serving in Iraq right now, #### if I was not in college at the start of the war I could of joined and looking back should have.

Felonies really are on a case by case when the demand is up for new employees, thats what I've noticed. However when the demand is down it seems standards change. I won't say go up because personally you can have crapy workers with or without records.

Right now perhaps the demand is down for new truckers so I expect it to be hard to find work however I've been honest with every recruiter and the truck school. For what ever reasons the owner said they know a few companies that don't care, one of them is hauling batterings from portland to LA making around 750 a week... I'll pretty much do what ever it takes to get my foot in the door.

Expericence just like having all my endorsements, good job references and a willingness to work should help offset some stupid things I choose to do 15 years back.

There I think I've worded this respectable enough. I see the points you were making and such. I also know todays generation is more or less Gen " ME " what can I get for ME, what is owed to ME etc etc... Well lets just say I was raised differently by a dad.. well I think this picture speaks volumes. This is my real dad, ONLY dad. This pic was taken in 1981

I was about 5 or so, he was in his early 70s. So you can be dam sure I was not raised to get hand outs. I worked for my first car and earned it at 17 years old. I moved out because I did not like all of his rules and did not show enough respect to him. Guess it started to show at age 18

Either way and despite my not having fines paid ( although I do want to get them paid once and for all ) I really don't like living off the old welfare food card. Seriously, one becomes a slave to goverment when they get hand outs. I wanna have kids some day and a family
