The wreck happened on the entrance ramp of Interstate 40 at about 12:30 p.m.Authorities said when the tractor-trailer started to lose control of the vehicle, a driver of a car next to it tried to get out of the way. The car was occupied by a husband, wife and 6-month-old child. The truck ended up rolling over on top of the car, injuring the hands of the male driver. His wife and child were not hurt. The husband was taken to Summit Medical Center. The truck weighed more than 70,000 pounds and was carrying aluminum cans, which will have to be unloaded. The Tennessee Department of Transportation estimated it could be 8 p.m. before the wreck is cleared.

Sounds like too many trucks are taking ramps a little too fast these days!

I am amazed that the family actually survived this accident at all. That driver shoulda known better than to take that ramp at high speed with a load like that. Unfriggin real.

Yes, and once again a news organization gets it WRONG!

The reporters say (several times) that the truck was "carrying over 70000 pounds of crushed aluminum cans".

NO! The truck, trailer, and cargo were a combined 76K, not the load by itself! I get so #### tired of this type of reporting, and I e-mailed them to let them know.

Still, the family is lucky to be alive and that driver will probably be looking for employment.

You said it there! I have to wonder how some of these reporters managed to graduate high school, let alone college!

Definitely glad the family is OK.

I don't question anyone's brain-cell count, but simply the seemingly evaporating desire to "get it right".

I know they've never driven a truck. OK. But where did they get that information? If they got it from law enforcement, and THEY said the same thing, shame on them as well. Or perhaps they misunderstood, which I feel is more likely. But the fact remains that there is a 30,000 pound difference between their report and the facts of the case.

In the grand scheme of the incident, I suppose it is a small thing. After all, the family saw their lives flash before their eyes. And perhaps it's because I'm an ex-broadcaster (DJ/news person of a dozen years). But mistakes like this just get under my skin.

    Now, pass the Twinkies!

Here is another from a couple of weeks ago. The kicker is that this is on the exact same on ramp at about the exact same spot. Speed is definitely a factor on this ramp.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - An 18-wheeler flipped over Friday afternoon on the entrance ramp to I-40 East from Briley Parkway in Donelson.
The wreck also caused a large diesel spill.
Police said the driver of the truck lost control and flipped his load. He was treated for non-critical injuries.

The truck was carrying large rolls of steel.
The ramp was blocked as crews worked to clean up the diesel spill. TDOT estimated the wreck would be cleared by 5:00 p.m.

Really.. no kidding, I was a dj for a few years down in the Virgin Islands. Had the late night on the weekends and did drive time Wed-Friday. We prepped our news like you wouldn't believe. The station manager was a news reporter from St. Louis and he made us get it right. If we f'ed up the news he got himself in a right royal snit!!!!

Ah golden sponge cake wonders of science :biggrin_25514:

My last job was a little mom and pop station...pop would prep the news....manual typewriter on long rolls of AP wire paper. Couldn't spell.

He would have the Senate passing a budget for "3.2 million dollars anally", "the abundance of seadoof", among others.
