I gotta agree with you. We've gotten a few "after the fact" messages, e.g., found out we had a JIT load the day after we picked it up. Also got a couple of preplans that were impossible based on available hours. Yeah, it's Swift planners not paying attention.

We just arrived at a shipper, then got a message that we should have been here 5 hours earlier......our "window" was not even open 5 hours ago!

It's actually comical to wait to see what will happen next....

    Still loving it though!

All jobs have aggravations. If this is as aggravating as it gets, even if it gets worse....so what. I've had several jobs where the aggravations were much worse and the job satisfaction was much less.

Headed for Wilkes-Barre as soon as we get loaded here in Bolingbrook. I'm looking forward to getting out of CST!

You're right, Sonny, just aggravatons. After all, the office people are human too, and they make mistakes just like I do. I expect them to be understanding when I make a mistake, so I gotta be understanding when they do. Doesn't mean I can't call them out on it, though.

I suspect what's happening is a hiring spree in the offices, and the new computer jockeys just don't know what they're doing yet. Swift has been hiring new drivers, so it's logical to figure they've hired new office staff as well.

Now if they'll only hire some new mechanics!

According to my DM the planners are not giving enough details on the preplans. I had a last minute load assignment given to me on Friday. No mention of needing a TWIC card. Or mentioning about needing a safety vest. $50 for an "escort" and $10 for a vest. When I got inside the gate it was a frikken joke! This was at the Port of Philadelphia.

Croc of doodie! I got into an arguement on the Qualcom and told them to pull it off me.

I hate the East Coast. :biggrin_25513:

Rug trucker: I was under the impression that Swift knows who has a TWIC and who doesn't and they plan accordingly, just like with Hazmat. Guess I was wrong, huh? And as a note to all newbies, a safety vest is a good buy. It's not common to need one, but some places do require it and who wants to borrow a vest that's been worn by other truckers? Heaven knows, I've borrowed a few stinky ones! Not to mention the fact that they buy the size to fit the largest truckers and we all know how big they are! You could probably fit four of me into one of those vests.

Anyway, I finally got unloaded in Olive Branch, and got the pickup in Memphis without problem. I dropped the trailer in Front Royal at Dupont on Saturday, but they had no empties for me. So I bobtailed out and went up to the Swift drop yard in Martinsburg, WV. They had me on a Target load picking up at the DC in Chambersburg, PA and going to the store in Plymouth Meeting, PA, but just as I was ready to leave the load was cancelled. So instead I got a load off the drop yard delivering in Pittsburgh, PA (pd miles- 229), which is where I am now, waiting to be unloaded.

And now, if you will excuse me, I'm into the Pretty Little Liars book series (yes I read kids books- they're fun) and book #6 is calling:biggrin_25525:

oh, P.S. I got a response to my lack of appt times complaint. It went liike this:
"the customer failed to notify Swift that appointments are required. Until recently their appointment process was first come first serve. Swift now understands that appointments are required."

Now I was told by the office lady at the customer that a Swift driver had shown up the day before me and didn't have an appt either. Now obviously, they would have been told appts are needed by that driver. So how can they say they didn't know I needed an appt the next day? ***shrug*** ah well, such is life as a Swifty.

I sent the receipt for the vest. Swift does know who has the TWIC card. Evidently you can buy your way out of it at some places.

You would think when they would keep track of your hours from your Mac10. I always get long runs offered to me when I have 45minutes on my 70 :biggrin_25523: It seems the planners just throw anything they can out there in hopes of someone taking it.

Planners don't have time to verify HOS to each driver for each load...it is up to the driver to verify he/she has the needed available hours to do the load BEFORE accepting the preplan..which is why the accept/decline option is put in there.

As a driver you need to learn to do a quick inspection/verify/plan when you look at a preplan:
    1. Can you P/U load on time; hours available to get to shipper in scheduled time frame.
    2. Can you deliv on time; do you have the required hours available to deliv on schedule.
    3. If you can P/U on time, but not enough hours to deliv; send your DM a quick message (directed message) that you can P/U but can't deliver, can he/she arrange a transfer in route at another terminal or with another truck...good way to score some points with DM and planners.
    4. Do yourself a favor by getting to know some planners in the areas you run. Go into the terminals (after regular daytime hours) and introduce yourself, sell yourself as a "runner", and get the planners message code if you can. this could save some aggravation and reduce waiting time between loads.
    5. For those running the Columbus, OH terminal zone...the Sears Dedicated planner (daytime hours) is the BEST FRIEND you could have in your pocket...he is always needing some help.
    6. The night planner in Edwardsville, KS is great to get around the Memphis planner.
    7. BE PROACTIVE IN YOUR JOB AS A DRIVER...NOT REACTIVE AS A WAITER FOR PLANS!

Finished up in Pittsburgh and got a run from Alexandria, PA (near State College) going to Perrysburg, OH (pd miles-447). I was told it would be preloaded, but it wasn't. It didn't take them long to get it loaded, though, and I had plenty of time to get to the consignee. I had plenty of time at the consignee, too:biggrin_25510:. Beware Walgreens in Perrysburg!!! I've been there twice and got lots of detention pay out of it both times. They unload each pallett box by box and do a full count of each and every piece before they will let you leave. My appt was 2000 last night and I got out of there about 0300 this morning.

I've got a trip now going from Martel, OH to Buffalo, NY (pd miles-376). Live load at shipper, drop at consignee. Then they backed me up with a load from Canandaigua, NY they want me to T-call at Jonestown, PA (not sure of the miles- miles listed in preplan are inaccurate).

I just got a preplan to load at 10am today. It delivers tomorrow to Walmart in GA. My PTA was set for 0600 tomorrow! :biggrin_2559: I messaged my DM to see if it is drop and hook. And let them know I can't make the PU. Got the PP # 17:30 :biggrin_25526:
