I have had no real problems with any of the PC's I have owned. The worst problem I had was when my dad helped me build a computer for my boys to play their computer games on. He suggested an AMD processor, which was the biggest mistake. The darn thing would crash after 20 minutes of play. They could play the games no problem on my HP. This was back in 2000.
I run graphics heavy software (the entire Adobe suite) and download and edit all of my digital photos on my PC's and have no problems with my drivers, hardware, software or anything else.
Mac over PC?

Ill take a slower (on paper) Mac over a Pc any day. Virus software is a necessary system resource robbing evil on any Pc, and the Pc will always run slower because its handicapped with anti virus, anti spam ware, etc. Nothing hogs system resources more than anti virus. Not so with a Mac, as they just don't have virus issues.

MAC!!!!
I love mine. I was forced to use PCs for the last 20 years because that's what the gov't used.
I have a 10 year old mac that still runs good as new and is even faster than my GF's new PC laptop. 10 years old!!!!
Let me put it to you this way...
What is the definition of a computer virus?
Something that:
slows a computer down
hogs memory
uses an extraordinary amount of hard drive space
deletes files
and crashes your computer
Yep, sounds like MS Windows to me!! -
Point of clarity in case someone interprets this literally.
Macs (OS X) can and have been infected by viruses. It is absolutely true that Mac's, for the most part, enjoy "flying under the radar" of virus makers because of the market share of Microsoft, but it is important to clarify that they are not immune.
Also, a large potion of current malware activity revolves around what are called "browser-based hijacks" which don't care what operating system you are using. They are written for and attach into Internet Explorer, Netscape, Firefox, etc and compromise you in various ways (from moderate advertising popups to complete identity theft.)
There are various anti-virus products available for Mac for a reason. Though again, your "odds" are exponentially lower of infection as long as the malware creators continue to focus on Windows.
<virus trivia of the day: I have a new record-holder for virus infection last Friday - 816 malware infections on her machine. What did we learn? "AV AntiVirus Suite" IS NOT "AVG Antivirus" as the driver had thought. It will actually give you, well... 816 pieces of Malware. And yes, it was a Windows machine. I was able to clean it remotely using MalwareBytes, but she needs to cancel her Visa card.)
Pixel Thanks this. -
I've never had nor have I ever worried about "browser-based hijacks" on my MAC. I feel the statement that MACS are under the radar are inaccurate. The sales that Apple reports, though most are iPhone products puts MACS in the main stream with other PC's.
The 0.001% chance that a MAC will be hacked would be an interesting achievement given that a MAC is a BSD UNIX architecture. A complex system like UNIX or LINUX has been hacked, but only by a hacker of quite superior abilitiesand such a person would have a certain criteria in which to select their target.
A while back iPhones were being hacked in order to acquire all the passwords and banking info that consumers store on their phones. Apple was instantly aware of the problem and the weakness patched. Most hackers choose Windoz to exploit the many weaknesses of the product.
I have been MAC since 1997,.. and my PC's just gather dust ever since. The biggest issue is the price and people can't understand why the hardware is so much more expensive. But,.. when you own a PC all you keep doing is buying more software or upgrades because MicroScoff doesn't include things like Office when you buy a PC.
A great deal of things are included when you buy a MAC like printer drivers already installed. Hey,.. if you are hardcore PC then I feel your pain,.. GOD bless.
But now you can install WinDoz on your MAC using Apples BootCamp program which is also already included. Here is a YouTube video from a Soldier in the U.S. Army.

This is the latest Ubuntu Linux, running on a PC. No viruses, no spyware to worry about. A PC does not HAVE to run Windows, any more than a Mac HAS to run Snow Leopard. This operating system doesn't cost $200, it's free. This has every advantage the last poster says he enjoys with his Mac without the added expense. -

Mac vs PC threads never fail to amuse me. The truth is that there is no perfect operating system nor is there a perfect machine. They all have their strengths and failings.
Personally, I use them all and which one I use at the moment just depends on what I am doing. I have a laptop running a Windows 7/Slackware Linux dual boot setup, I have a MacBook, and I have a laptop that only runs Slackware Linux. I also have an Archos 5 IT tablet computer that runs on Android.
They are all have good points as well as bad. For me, Slackware Linux is my favorite OS but YMMV.
