Listen, I'm on this board to gather information to make a loadboard better for all of you people out there. I'm not asking you to sign up so please dont think that. I would like to know this. If you all had unlimited resources what would you all like to see? How would you like to have the information on loadboards displayed to you and how would you like to interact with it. I feel it's time to change things up. It's been the same thing for years now. Post and call, its time for the a shakeup in the industry! Please let me know!

Several brokers that I have talked to turned me down due to not enough months w/ an active MC and a two others asked for references. The ones that ask for references seem to be a little smaller outfits however I have no issue with providing references. Just seems odd that UPS doesnt ask however they are the broker and that is there business. As of now I have been pulling off the boards for 3 months and it is going OK - mostly in the SE and have picked up one direct customer so far. They needed the truck for a day in Tampa, FL so I charged $125 an hour and all we did was 4 trips of about 2 miles round trip over 7.5 hours. Is that a fair hourly rate? I wasnt completely sure but it was by far my most profitable day so far.
Trying to get direct clients or contracts w/o a truck first.....if you were the shipper would you commit to someone who doesnt have a truck? Currently working on a $3.00 per mile plus direct contract of 1100 mile shipments and optimistic on it going through just hopefully sooner than later.
As a note if your company will let you use load boards to get going - if they are receiving part of the compensation then there insurance can cover it however it will be an uphill battle on your part due to increased liability to your current company. -
$125/hour for what you did is some action I'd be all over. Nice job!
Marlin46 and Eskimo6804 Thank this. -
As we have all seen that day / load is the exception rather than the rule and as a side note a little bit of labor was involved as well but for that rate I do not mind helping out.
Thanks! -
1)You cannot be leased on to a company and run under your own authority at the same time. The main reason for this is insurance liability. If you are leased onto a company and you want to find your own loads, then you must to use the company's authority (mc#)
2)We have our own authority and have been in business for 2 years and have rarely been asked for references
3)With fuel at $3 a gallon, you need to make at least $3 a mile on either your head haul or your back haul...So it can add up to at least $2 a mile round trip. -
What and where are you hauling mainly? As my rate per mile is slowly increasing I am not anywhere close enough to the $3.00 mark yet. Just curious if most of your stuff is direct contracts or boards or what percentage of each? Thanks - Marlin

What are the average dry van rate off load boards? im currently waiting on my authority to get finalize. Im thinking about doing the jbh power program. i dont have a trailer at this time. Jbh says there average rate is 1.40

Current average primarily in the SE is $1.62 off the boards....may want to check out the boards for power only options for a little bit as well before going full on at JB - just a thought.
