Does'nt Maverick drive Black and Chrome (Mr Trucker you had better learn how to spell it.) "Peterbilts" as they built over 250,000 in Denton TX alone.

I use to work for maverick and went MavIC . I did well except the darn truck kept breaking down on me. guess i was too hard on it. anyway maverick has a saying " Its the maverick way or the highway" they are very very picky. they pretty much start figuring out who isn't going to cut it when you check into the hotel. with them its best to be seen, not heard and you must be willing to forget pretty much anything else you learned at any other company and do it "the maverick way". I am not saying that is a bad thing. Maverick has an very good securement class. Better than most. And after getting use to it a lot easier than most. As far as asking questions, be carefull how you word them. I went to maverick from TMC with a lot of distrust from the way i was treated previously, Ed had his work cut out for him and i expected to be sent home quite honestly. When he showed us something that was diffrent than what i was use to, all i asked was "why? please explain what is better and safer about it" I only needed to do that twice and then it made sense. I wasn't tought correctly to start with. Ed knew that and knows that with all recruts coming in. Just don't question him to death and by all means dont word it as " thats not how we did it at so and so" or " thats wrong " that will get you burned quickly.

Why you were cut who knows. It could have been apperence which they are very keen on. Language, or topic of discussion, the thing is their are eyes and ears everywhere there. I wish you luck in the future. The reason i left was a problem between my fleet manager and myself. So without disrespecting him or myself i felt it would be best if i just parted ways. They have invited me back to drive for them but I have found new happiness here at home with a grandson. think i will watch him grow a bit first.

they both have their good points and their bad points. With TMC the good was I had newer and better equipment, truck, trailer, tarps, etc so i didn't have very many breakdowns. Of course I am the kind of guy that treats my equipment as if it were my own, so that goes a long way. Some guys have the mindset that if its not theirs then who cares. Also They rarely laid me over up until the economy started to slide.

The bad with TMC was some of the yard inspectors were overly picky as to how you stoed your stuff and where. If you did break down, you waited a long time to get help, I know i waited 8 hours on the side of I-77 in Ohio at exit 16 at night. And now I never had a problem with my FM his boss covered for him on vacation and now he had a huge problem with my runing legal. I pushed me a bit too far and that is why i left. I have a law enforcement background and the guys where i live all know i went to driving so weather it was a gag or trying to piss me off, when i rolled thru town coming home I always got stopped. And i told them and put it on my app. the first time they asked me to run illegal would be the last. And i am a man of my word. It was the last. I came home cleaned out the truck and I live 150mi from the SC term. and dropped my truck.

Maverick, the good. Always had a load waiting, made right out of the gate .41 pr mi. and always got 2000-2500 per wk. when i got close to my 2000 mark they started routing me home. Both companies were very good for home time. When i broke down help was at my tk within 1 hr.
When i went MavIC all still held true until i got my last FM. He was the problem. He was a nice guy in person, but he was a company FM trying to deal with Independants. He wasnt use to the options we had to us. Company drivers were forced dispatch, IC wasn't and he didn't like that, and he loved to argue. So here is the bad. He liked to argue, equipment always breaking down, even company truck, and when my FM didn't get his way, he would set me for a day or 2 and liked to cross the line as far as family.(we won't get into that) I finally had enought of that and left.

Had he not done that or if i had another FM I prob would still be driving for them today. I checked and he was the only IC FM who had those kind of complaints. Lucky me.

Maverick does have a supurb way of securing and tarping. Best advice i can give not only for Maverick but for any Co. you plan to go to is, sit down, shut up, stay awake, and do it their way. Dont as very many questions and to why they want it done that way, just do it their way. Remember you asked them for a job, they didn't ask you. That is just a employer look at things.

This was a very enlightening thread as Mav is my first choice...

    Sounds like it's best to be;

    clean cut
    speak when spoken to
    be cordial and polite
assume everyone is listening to you
    show up early and prepared
    be in decent shape
    NEVER complain
get as much sleep as possible
ignore cell phone until class is over
    and be open minded

    Sounds easy...Did I miss anything?

Do you think they read this forum?

Pretty easy for you to say as a student. Most companies will hire students even if they come into orientation 400 pounds and naked.
