its sooo hard to find good independant truckstops though. And most independant truckstops ive been to have even more overpriced stores than the big chains, and have even worse food. Whats the point?

So because they're replacing the current restaurant with a Denny's, they're catering to cars? I don't get it.
-
me either.

I think what people are saying is Flying J use to be more driver oriented by providing drivers' lounge, laundry facilities and even drivers only rest rooms.
Pilot does none of these. Their (percieved) business model is 'get 'em in, get 'em out'. Much like the car end of the station business.HFC and Diesel_Smurf Thank this. -
I had breakfast at Denny's this week it was great.

Every single J we have stopped at this past two weeks, from PA, to OH, to AR, to OK, to TX, to NV, have told us the same thing.
Nearly all of the employees at the J are NOW, are transfers from Pee-Lots.
We have been in 3, this week alone, that had NO FOOD at all, as they were in the midst of changing over, redoing floor plans, etc, and 2 of those didn't have showers available, as they had no hot water, because of all of the reconstruction.
They are being turned into a PILOT, in every aspect. No more selling cutesy souveniers for the 4-wheelers to buy, not much of anything that a truck driver would WANT to buy from a Pilot.
My thoughts are, when all of the J's turn into Pee-lots, where, exactly, do they think their greatest revenue is going to come from? The CARS, who will come in, eat at Denny's (which only is paying space rent to them), use the toilet, and leave?
OR, the truckers, who spend HUNDREDS of dollars, for fuel?
Just a thought...

FYI....Flying J has been "marketing" to and giving special preference treatment to "4-wheelers" and the tourist trade for years. Changing the restaurant to Denny's doesn't change anything.

Very good point. I go with the hundreds of dollars.
But it's terrible that "the new sheriff in town", could not have allowed the former Flying J people to stay in their current jobs ... if they wanted to stay, that is.
I made that comment to some fuel desk staff and waitresses that I hope you all do get to stay and make noises that you want to stay to the new management when it comes in.simplyred1962 Thanks this.
