Remember I am going to be working for Swift so I already have thick skin. The discussion has been pretty good and I don't take these things personal. Everyone has a opinion as long as we keep it professional its all good with me..lol

secondly, i'm impressed with your attitude. those guys really got off-base there, but you kept your sense of humor and didn't appear to let it take away from your accomplishment. you rock, martman.
i can only hope to do it so well!
you'll be in my prayers. drive safely... and have fun! -
ah nobody was picking on anybody, we just having a decent conversation...
Just preparing him for the CB chatter we get nowadays
most topics in all forums go a little skewed from the original topic.
Original poster has a great attitude and is what we need more of in this line of work....
Again, congrats and keep your cool....:smt025 -
Thank you and I am rooting for you as well. Hope to see you out on the road one day too.

If you think about it, the truck driver is held to a higher standard than a doctor... what would your dispacher say if you told him... "hey bud... this call is $20 just to talk to me... yeah I'll pick up that load for ya... it's gonna cost you $2500 if i get it to the destination or not... "

There are a lot of truck driving jobs out there... which is good. If they shutdown the plant I work for i really do not want to start over with another plant. Right now, truck driving is my first choice. I wish I could get with a trucking company now and work for them part time... since I work the 4 on 4 off schedule... so when/if my employer moved my job to China... I will already be in the industry.
I have also been facinated by the 18 wheelers too. I'm not sure if I was considered a professional or not, but when I was in the Army I drove thier trucks/buses/jeeps about 95% of the time for about two years and was paid for it. I have never did the OTR thing, but most of it seems pretty cool. ESPECIALLY the open road... solitude... different scenery... and decent money.
One thing I would have an issue with is the OTR restrooms... have they improved this area of the industry? Clean restrooms, decent showers, and safe stops. and what does it mean when they say, 95% no touch freight? Does that mean 5% of the time you are unloading a 53 foot trailer??? Do they offer forklifts to unload these trucks? -

the most true thing I ever saw was a small poster one of my former dispatchers had on his wall. It said
"arguing with a truck driver is like wresteling greased pigs. Sooner or later you figure out the pig likes it"
or something to that effect anyways
