Okay so you must hear me out, and tell me if you think i'm nuts. I was driving tri-axle and left that job to go work at a limestone mine (underground and strip). I jumped up 6$ per hour more + new job has free bennies. Here's my dellima, I drive truck and run heavy equipment, but I also do most of the labor, mostly heavy labor such as shoveling tons of limestone fines and chipping out chutes underneath crushers, etc. I find myself out in this 100* heat really regretting my job change. No one around here is hiring any drivers right now, and I get so darn nervous on any road test I would'nt hire myself. I'm a good driver, but when someone's sitting beside me, I can barely function. My question is, am I nuts for regretting coming to this new job, or is it totally understandable?:biggrin_25513:

I worked in underground hard rock mines before and loved the job. I didn't like the BS of someone looking over my shoulder every day. The money is way better than you will make driving for someone else. 100 degrees bother you? I have worked in 135 degrees 12 hrs at a time. After awhile it didn't seem so hot. Only you know what you want.

    Hey Logan,

    You are CRAZY! (Happy now?):biggrin_25525:

OK, at this point you realize that you screwed up. Don't fret, we have all done it. Just keep your head down and get the job done until you are able to move on.

And as to the nervousness on a road test, most folks are. And most of the testers realize this and will cut you some slack. So don't psyche yourself out about that.

One other thought. That hard work will keep you in shape a whole lot better than sitting behind a steering wheel.:biggrin_2559:

Just stick it out until they start hiring drivers again and go back! Simple!

Just because you didnt realize how much work it'd be, doesnt make you crazy.

I'd make sure you stick it out atleas 3 months at that job though, you dont want to look like too bad of a job hopper...

I suck on road tests too. I'm technically still in training at my current job but as my dispatcher puts it, theyll probably have me run with my trainer for a day or two and run short loads for the next week..lol. but man, i hate being in training. I hate having someone sitting there critiquing my driving. But i probably woulda rolled the truck over by now without a little training, lol. Little things like "ok definitely take this ramp at 20" and "count the dashes and take atleast 7 of them when you want to change lanes".....

Hah, I'm glad im not the only one that totally bombs out on road tests. I've been passed up on a local job a couple time's because of road test's that i dropped the ball on, and it sucks to know that I can drive so much better than I actually am during the test. The 100* heat isnt so bad as being curled up inside of a crusher chipping out hardened limestone with a hammer and a chisel for 6 hours in it, lol. I do also agree, I most likely wont make this kind of money driving locally for someone.

Man you're crazy as a sack of nuts! Or loonier than Woody Wood Pecker! Feel better?

Get over the nerves when doing a driving test or if someone with a century of driving is sitting next to you! Just think of them as some naked gorgeous hottie sitting next to you and drive the truck!

As an ex driving instructor look at it as just another day in the seat! Don't worry when they write something on the clipboard as it's usually just a check mark in a box! Or it could be that they saw a sale sign in a window and is writing it down! Or the tag number of the idiot that did something stupid in front of you that you didn't see!

CHILL OUT! Relax, Make the air go in and make it go out! loosen the choke hold on the steering wheel and don't jam the gears!

DUDE! Just look Kewl sitting on that seat!

And look at it this way you still have a job right? And winter is coming soon and that can't be too bad according to the end of the world loonies! I enjoy shoveling all that global warming! So the temps should drop at least 20*!

    Now I'll go ROFLMFAO!

    Good Luck

haha, i hate when the global warming gets my driveway a mess. Thanks rollover, One of my main things is its like I want to muscle everything, I'm hard on the shifter, and slower on the stick, and I'm hard on the brakes. I've always had alot of anxiety about performing, i dealt with it alot in highschool sports.
