WOW, right is right and wrong is wrong either ya smoke or ya dont...there are no grey areas in this game. Thats kinda like some guys/gals who claim they only drink their six pack on saturday etc.

What you do on your vacation or in your own life is up to you, but telling some one to get the hell over it b4 anyone even "jumped" is kinda like sayin come on lets goooooo.............

As for grey areas. I have a pimple on my left elbow, could it be cancer ?

I say one joint in 3 years...is hardly considered being a drug addict. But you are entitled to your opinion.

I have never smoked while operating a CMV. Nor have I ever been under the effects of any substance while operating any vehicle. Although I do keep a bottle of aspirin and tumeric...and take them both daily.

While a test may show trace elements of past use, if given in a timely manner. Those same test will show traces of alchohol. Yet we perceive one worse than the other, because it is an illegal substance.

But I can tell you with 100% certainty. I have seen drivers drinking in their trucks, after a days work. And I've NEVER seen anyone smoking pot in their truck.

But that's not the issue, is it? But it does concern me. Why would it not concern everyone else?

After all, the number 1 abused "drug" in America. Is alcohol.

From the scientific area of the debate. I know the difference between "trace levels, and high levels.

Using "trace levels" to disqualify someone, is equivalent to accusing every man who has children. Of being a rapist. IMHO But that's the law as it is.

BTW, they just legalized medical use in VA hospitals this week. But only in the 14 states it is "legal" What a joke...

 

It is not up to us to determine this. Your pain, is your pain.

You will be dealing with companies who are dealing with Federal Laws and their insurance companies.

To quote luvmyhubby, (while we disagree on the usage issue) there is no grey area on your issue.

The law is the law. Until you can get those laws changed. Many/Most companies will NOT give you a pass.

Even a driver who fails a test, then goes into treatment, will lose his job. And most likely will be unable to get another job in the industry.

Even though the "law" allows them to be rehired by the company that recommended that treatment. There is little, if anything, they can do to force any company to hire them.

It's the old catch 22.

 

Well I feel for ya dude... But, ?#1, With chronic pain,Why did you choose Truck Driving for a job??? That right there is gonna be a Real Big problem for you to start with. there's gotta be some other line of work you could get into. Yea, there's guy's out there driving with chronic pain, but, they've developed it over a long period of time. Your'e trying to start out with it. Sorry, but I wouldn't hire ya,just on that alone. If I needed a load delivered, an your laid up in a truck stop saying "I can't drive" that ain't gonna fly with any trucking co. ?#2 - How long do you think you're gonna last with the Naproxin, before you're coughing up blood, and Really Can't Work? My advise (for what it's worth) Find a nother line work. What you Want to do, and what you Can do, sounds like two different things here. Sorry....

 

Excellent point there. I'm dealing with constant pain (not chronic) myself, from the years of abuse I've done to my body. Driving and racing motorcycles.

I can't imagine starting this job at age 25 or 30, knowing what I do, with my current levels of pain.

Hell I'd be operating a wheel chair in 10 years. Wouldn't need a CDL for that...I hope.

 

Marijuana is a naturally occuring herb. Traditional drugs are chemicals. I'd take the marijuana, if i could get it dosed properly where i wasnt stoned all the time...

he may have used it for a long time and built up a tolerance and had to start smoking more of it....and while it wasnt affecting him more, it was putting more thc in his system..

 

If you think the guys on here are being judgemental now, then imagine what it would be like in a court if your invovled in a accident with a fatality (your fault or not). Heck, I get extremely paranoid if I drive an hour over my logbook to get back home because I know it would be garunteed jail time if I'm involved in an accident (my fault or not) and somebody gets hurt or killed. You should of told the school about all this long before signing up because they could of told you what your hearing now, and that is pot (legal or not) doesn't mix with trucking. Good luck.
