Assuming that it was ONE store trying to cut costs by putting potatoes in the chicken salad and then passing it off as real chicken meat ...
I would like to be a fly on the wall when the Subway corporate office contacts or visits this franchisee to have them explain themselves.
However, if it's a corporate inspired idea and they are trying to pass it off as a "mistake" by one franchisee, then, we are trully in trouble and not getting what we paid for.
With the Magic Dragon and the Pizza places going away at Flying J's and they are being replaced by Subways, we should be mindful of what other tricks they may have up their sleeve.

Well what it seems to me from observation, is that as the number of SUBWAY franchises goes up, the quality goes down. At least the quality of mandated cleanliness of their stores and personnel.
I was at a SUBWAY here in Southern Utah many years ago, and witnessed the following:
They had an obviously "developmentally disabled" young man working busing tables. He was obviously well known and well liked by their local clientèle, as many people spoke to him, calling him by name. He was extremely friendly and appeared to be quite efficient in his job.
At least until most of the crowd had cleared out. I was sitting there, enjoying my roast beef sandwich, and watching him work. He must have noticed that the top of a table salt shaker looked dirty. He picked it up and looked at it. He looked around, and not seeing me there, (apparently) he LICKED THE TOP of the salt shaker, then wiped it on his apron.
I #### near threw up on the spot. I just got up and left. There was no way that I could handle even trying to talk to his boss at that time. Needless to say, I never returned to that store.
I also have noticed that the local store here in my town has gone down hill as far as general cleanliness is concerned. And the new one that has opened inside our new WALMART, actually STINKS. I don't know what they are doing there, but the pleasing smell of baking bread is not here. Whatever this odor is, it is very unpleasant.
I have been in SUBWAYS where there was no one on duty but kids. The rap-crap music that they play over the loudspeakers is turned up way past the threshold of pain.
These are just a few of numerous bad experiences that I had before I stopped going to SUBWAY altogether. . .simplyred1962 Thanks this. -
I've got a call into Jared right now. We'll get to the bottom of this soon. BTW, all their meats are pressed, but the tuna is soooooooo good.

I was at a client's location once, will not divulge the state for reasons that it can be traced.
We were meeting with a corporate guy for ideas on cost cutting and ways to improve sales.
He was going through the kitchen when some exposed bread hit the floor. The employee picked it up and went to throw it away.
He stated to give it to him and immediately wiped it off and gave it back and said to use it. Told my client, you have to control the costs and it cost money to throw out stuff that could be good.
I asked about the health code and all and he said, just don't do it around the inspectors.
Needless to say, Subway for the most part is not something I think about after this meeting.simplyred1962 and Big Don Thank this. -
Unfortunately, you are going to find this sort of thing in a lot of places. And it isn't just "corporate greed," though that is a good part of it. There is also the "lazy" factor, and the just plain "stupid" factor.
My daughter and I were in a Pizza Hut several years ago. There was a young "lady" setting up the salad bar. She dropped a serving tong on the floor, picked it up, half way wiped it off on her apron, and put it back in the salad.simplyred1962 Thanks this. -
Man that stuff just burns my taters. I managed a deli about 7 years ago and we worked freaking hard to make sure we were spotless and never EVER violated a health law or common sense.
You could have eaten off our floors but we darn sure would never have served food that felll on it!simplyred1962 Thanks this. -
This happened in MO, I ordered the same sandwich in PA and it was good, the only thing is, it is kind of messy to eat as a sandwich. This was at a Subway at a Pilot, and I normally won't eat there.
The other horror stories, I guess you have to watch out anywhere, and if you see something like these incidents, report it to management.
The management that was into cutting costs, I would have reported to someone higher up. These places don't care if they put someone off because every customer that leaves is replaced by someone ticked off at another place.
The bad smell at the Wal-Mart might be redemption center nearby, anywhere there is a container deposit, or there is just a bad odor in the air from produce or the deli or something. Did it smell of rotting fruit? -
At the Speedway Subway in South Bend, IN(caddy corner from the Pilot, right off of US31 before you go into Michigan) under the "local favorites" menu the serve a chicken salad sub that leaves out all of the apples and other stuff. It isn't too bad and you don't have to worry about mistaking apple taters for chicken.
