You know that part of keeping a clean CDL, well I have one.

Would you believe that an insurance company once turned me DOWN !!!!!!!!

Said nobody was a perfect driver, and my number would soon come up......meaning I was due for an accident ?????

Kind of glad I never got that job, but was surprised by that comment..........

I agree that it's good you didn't get on there. Any insurance company with that attitude shouldn't be in the business. Just my opinion, of course, but I've come across million milers with clean records. You may be one of them. However, since you even said you were glad to not get on there, I would have to assume that they weren't a good company, correct?

How important is a jug of water in the cab versus coffee? I know they say that coffee will keep you awake and all, but it seems that you can get dehydrated very easily sitting in the cab all day. What do you reccommend?

I would always keep a case of water in the truck that I would get from wal mart. That kept me good on the water.

I recommend drinking a good gallon of water a day. Having a coffee in the morning, and maybe one in the afternoon, is fine. Having it all day is not. Coffee has caffeine(which we all know), and caffeine is a diuretic, so it pulls the water out of your body. Having less water through your body leads to mild dehydration, which most will never even notice. The worst thing about that is with prolonged mild dehydration, your kidneys cannot function at their best, and the liver is called on to help out. If you're flushing out your system with a gallon of water a day, then your kidneys can do their job, and the liver can go back to doing it's job. One of the liver's jobs is to metabolize fat. So, in essence, drinking a gallon of water a day helps to keep you burning fat, as well as keeps your skin clearer, as well as keeps your kidneys flushed so that hopefully you never get kidney stones.

Also, if you're in need of a stimulant all day long, then there may be other underlying issues. Do you have sleep apnea, and not know it. Do you have chronic fatigue syndrome. Are you just running too #### hard, for too #### long. Etc., etc.

    Hope this helps somewhat.

I concur with lowrider. I was in IT for 16 years starting in the 80's as a mainframe operator, and worked up to software engineer which I did for 9 years. Back in the late 90's it was very easy to find an IT job. A few years later you couldn't even buy an interview. The jobs went overseas to places like India. I and a great many other U.S. citizens who worked in IT were out of jobs. As a final indignity, many IT pros were forced to train the people from India who were to take their jobs so they could keep working a bit longer and get a substandard severance package. Nowadays it's only contract work, or if you're very lucky you can get a top level security clearance and work on critical government military projects. Sure companies save money this way, but at what cost? The countless people who lost their careers are the ones who can no longer patronize a local restaurant, car dealer, department store, etc. The whole economy suffers just so the already-rich executives and investors can get richer. As someone said, someday we'll be a country of CEOs and janitors, with nothing in between. The middle class has traditionally been the backbone of this country, and it's disappearing. Sad but true.

I couldn't agree more. I was merely pointing out that most companies only want to pay the minimum amount they have to. Some companies learn the hard way that they are better off to pay more for a better quality of worker.

paddington is rite; I have been trucking my self sience 1992, I have drove locale, otr and line haul and i have been owner op. sience 02. cost of living has gone up drasticly in the last few years and I do remember when the freight rate per mile was more than a gallon of fuel. And detention time was paid. Believe it or not , ITS ONLY GONNA GET WORSE. The shippers are paying top doller on the rate, but as soon as it hits the brokers it is cut 40% to 60%... Watch the load bords. OWNER OPS. SAY NO TO CHEAP FREIGHT...
