Guys, I just bought Volvo 670 '04. Everything is good about the truck, but one thing is bugging me badly.
My steers (Michelin XZA3 11x22.5) are chewing badly on outside corners. The truck is all the time pulling to the right. I already did wheel alignment on all the axles and it did not help anyhow. Air pressure in both tires is around 107 psi on cold. The truck was not moving for about 3 month. Previous owner claims he did not have such a problem.
Breaks are good and do not drag for sure.
The only thing I noticed that my right air bag is raised higher than the left one for about 1-1.5 in. Can that be a reason for the truck pulling to the right and chewing the tires?

What does the wear look like on the tire ?
Even wear, all around? Or high and low spots aka cupping ?
Only on one side? Or on both ?
You've made no mention of having your kingpins checked. Have they been checked ? -
The wear is only on outsides of the tires. Right tire is worn out more than left. The wear is right on tread rib. It is even.
What kingpin are you talking about? Trailer? I does same thing even when I bobtail. So it is not trailer related.
I just stopped ar PETRO in Portage, WI. The guy checked wheel alignment and bearings on the steers - everything is within norm. -

Ok. Now I understand what kingpings you are talking about. I and going to stop at VOLVO in Madison, WI and have those guys do a check up on the steering system. Will get back with an answer shortly.

Also if you have bad wear patterns on the tires before the alignment, that wear pattern will continue after the alignment. It is a good idea to have your alignment done when you buy steer tires. Also getting tire trued (actually making them round) will make them last longer.

I just had the very same trouble as you on my Pete.
This is what I did. Had the front end checked out and it was in spec. My tires were at 112#. I put the tires up to 120# and rotated the tires.
No more pulling. Will have to see how they wear now. -
One more thing. I waould air up your steers to the max psi the tire is rated for. No more.

Volvo guy suggested me to swap the tire. All mechanical stuff is OK, by his opinion.
He told me that they noticed Michelin tires forming certain tread pattern after awhile and begin behaving like in my situation. -
The steers are airred up to 110 psi, thhough rated to 105 psi.
