You need to get $100k or your going to have a hard time getting loads, the price diffrence is not that much and worth it in case of a claim.

Thanks for all the info! Really helpful.

One thing I may have missed while reading, I apologize if I did, but does anyone know of the carriers who pay the insurance for you? I cant remember which carrier it was, but I was reading online about their OO program and it said they covered you while under dispatch?? Any more information on this would be great!!! Thanks and yall be safe!

That's normal... you are always covered by your company's insurance when under dispatch. You will need either 'unladen' or 'bobtail' insurance... unladen covers you with an empty trailer while NOT under dispatch... bobtail simply means you are covered when you are bobtailing!

    dieselUSMC Thanks this.

$100,000 is the standard that I have seen with the brokers that I deal with. As part of the policy that I have that $100,000 in Cargo coverage costs me $750 and I am thinking about increasing it to $250,000 in the hopes of doing some High Value Loads that can pay a little better...i.e. Electronics, etc....

You don't need to carry $250,000. $100,000 or $75,000 is fine. I carry high value cargo once in a while and bump my insurance up for the duration of the haul. I just did a load of skid steers and it cost me $35.00 for the 4 days of $250,000 cargo.

Any companies that consider miles per year in the rate equation ?? I'm only running 65,000/year and the insurance is the biggest fixed cost by far. I'm with Great West and they do not care how many miles I run...its still right at $8200/year ... for an old truck. I am running more than 500 miles from my home (750) so I can't get a break there.
