Back in the day there were a couple of HAM groups that were helpful to start with, then you go up working in a interference problem and find the transmit antenna in the middle of your commercial and local government receive antennas, right next to the master rx combiner rx antenna.

You trace it back to a transmitter running full blast, no cavaties what so ever, with spitting spurs out all over the band. That was the final straw.

But your right it was individuals not the HAMS in general. Most were cooperative, but bottom line you can not let hobbies interfere with income.

I lived in a neighborhood in Burbank sounded like yours. The neighbor came over with a petition regarding my next door neighbor collecting "old junk cars" in his driveway. This is what I told them, while I really hate what this looks like I will defend his right to the end to do with as he pleases with his own property.

To keep this on track, Connex 3300 is a great radio when used as intended.

That also happened in reverse. A local club had its repeater on a local mountaintop. Suddenly it didn't work anymore. The trustees went up onto the mountain to see what's up and found THEIR coax disconnected and some commercial outfit running THEIR antenna!!!!:biggrin_25510: They didn't unscrew the coax, they simply whacked it in two with a knife!!!!! That caused quite an argument in which the ham repeater owner proved the system was HIS and he DARED the commercial group to touch it again or ELSE!! Pretty big ole boy, too!!!!:biggrin_2559:

Oh Lordy, that was 10 years ago or so; I don't remember. I thought it was really brassy, tho. Rather than install their own VHF antenna, they saw the ham repeater's antenna on the tower and just hooked onto it.

DESTRUCTION of any licensed station is not a smart move.

I have not heard of this here what has happened is a C-Phone outfit buys the rights to the entire roof and kicks everyone off.

By the time they removed the antenna and re-turned it (assuming it re-tunable) I would think it would be cheaper and faster to have installed their own antenna.

Secondly, I haven't seem many repeater use coax. Those I've been involved with all use Heliax Cable.
