I only used tape on the 1/4" NPT threads into the tractor valve assembly. Not the 'output' side of the elbow that faces the plastic air lines...

Just checkin'... you wouldn't believe the number of flare fittings and compression fittings I've seen come through the shop with teflon tape on 'em. Perhaps this thread will serve to educate some of those who follow this practice.

    RubyEagle Thanks this.

Ok...I ordered the parts from Fastenal. Each quick-coupling is $14 each (wholesale price)....WTF....
I got 5 on the way. Now, is it "OK" or not to use teflon tape on the machine threads that the fittings go INTO the valve assembly or not....I want to do this right.

This project has got me way over my head in spending...I knew I was in for it, but each time I wander into KW, I end up grabbing my ankles and taking it again.:biggrin_25524:

Oddly, one of the salesman commented that they ought to give me an employee number since I am there so often. Most of my paycheck is going to KW actually. I have a full time job (In addition to my rig) that provides me with health and vacation and fairly decent pay...

One thing left to do - Fix my kingpins. I have another thread all about that, but just dont have the $1500 or so right now. I am not running the rig at the moment, since I am still in the process of 'restoring' it so to say..but come fall or winter, thats next on my list. At least I paid cash for the rig itself...:biggrin_25521:

Thanks for all the help guys. It really is appreciated... :biggrin_25525:

You are a better man than i... I would not bother changing fittings just to have the latest and greatest. When there is a problem again, i would definatly upgrade then. Until then, unless there is a problem, i would leave the working parts in there.

    No...your SMART.......I'm not a better man.....:biggrin_25513:

I figured, if one failed..which it did, the others cant be that far away. Sorta like when one headlight burns out, I replace both. These fittings had some green corrosion in the quick-disconnect side and while 4 of the 5 don't leak, I didnt want to take the chance. I doubt I will ever track down all of my little air leaks (I would go insane trying) - but ones I can HEAR, I will fix for sure. The 'interlock' diff switch was leaking too. Just picked up another one from KW... $78 :biggrin_2556:

Waste of money for most of this? - probably... I guess I shouldn't mention that I actually bought 6 of these adapters, in case I screw one up installing it..

..I should just stick to fixing what's bad and leave the rest, as you said...but that's always been a problem for me...it's hard to change your ways I guess...

Thread sealant is not recommended for use on a plastic valve. The threaded holes are held to a tight tolerance and will just peel the tape off wasting it. Screw the fitting in tight and you'll be fine. Those quick disconnect fittings were initiated by the manufacturers to streamline assembly at the factories. They weren't installed with us, the user in mind, although they run the price of the product up.

I mean where the brass threads screw into the metal valve housing....

:biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559: me smart.... now that is FUNNY. Best one i have heard in a LOOONNNNG time(just ask my wife...:biggrin_25525:). Not any smarter, but apparently have more time and experience around them. No one is born a truck expert. You will learn. We all did. Some guys make it look easy while the rest of us stumble through it.
And yes, trucks(and wives, but that is a forum by itself)are a money pit.
