Thanks for the advice, but I'm beyond the thinking about it stage. I paid $4k out of my pocket and went to Northampton Community College in Tobyhanna, PA. I had a great experience there, and now I'm in the process of job searching. Believe me, I would love to make $0.40/mile in a year or two, I would be thrilled.

When you get tired of pullin an ice-box, go to Crete Carriers, the dry van side, or Hunt out of Omaha, the flatbed side, all of the same company just different divisions.
OpenRoadGuy Thanks this. -
It seems that our school has an extremely good relationship with Shaffer and has nothing but good things to say about their company. Heck, I have a freakin Log Ruler from that company, if that doesn't prove my knowledge of Shaffer, I don't know what does?Skydivedavec and Saddle Tramp Thank this. -
Can somebody tell me what the long medical form looks like? Is it the thing I got from the DMV where they checked off boxes telling what tests I passed such as vision, and all of that jazz? I have *that* form. I think that might be the one we are talking about (I hope?).
Skydivedavec Thanks this. -
EDIT: It's sent brother.OpenRoadGuy Thanks this. -

OpenRoadGuy and Skydivedavec Thank this. -
Well, based on what I was just show, I never got a medical long form. I'm going to go back to the place where I had the exam done and get one. Thanks for the heads up!

I filled out a lot of information, but I wasn't provided with a copy of it. Wouldn't have known I needed it until you guys pointed it out to me. Sure I filled out information, all I'm saying is I didn't walk out of the doctor's office with it, nor would I have expected to. They should have known better, obvioiusly, but dropped the ball.

The biggest mistake new drivers make is thinking that this is a job. Its not its a way of life. A job you get to go home and are not responsible after you put in your required hours. In trucking you are still responsible for that load until it delivers even if you are logged in the sleeper or off duty.Another myth is about the pay look at it this way some drivers do make a great living and others are starving there are alot of reasons for this difference. Companies, pay scale, freight, hometime, equipment whether you are solo or team, E logs. All of these will factor into this true enough but the most important factor is you. Is this truly something you want to do are you really into as a career and not looking for a quick payday. I know we have all heard it before you will get out of it what you put in. I just truly feel new drivers have no clue about this industry until they get in and how could they. You cannot rehearse being waken up in the middle of the night by a forklift going in and out of your trailer, or being told you are loaded and ready to roll at 11 pm when you should be going to sleep. Or getting used to people and trucks constantly moving around you when you just want some quiet time. All the while being away from family and loved ones. All I am trying to say is this should not be a last ditch effort to get a job or I promise you nothing but failure is in store for you. If you need a job go to McDonalds or to the local 7-11.
Skydivedavec, TnVols Trucking and Kwaione Thank this.
