I am looking to compare OTR and Local Driving. I want to be able to compare the bonus you get paid for driving OTR and being away from home. What do you guys think? Any websites you could point me to?

poppapump1332 Thanks this. -
There is no premium pay for otr, It would be nice. More about mile of service with a good mvr, and no accidents. Every company is different you just have to find the one thats for you.
Kind of like women, you have to find the one that rings your bell, there all going to take you to the cleaners so find the one that makes you not care.Orlandodriver and MarkH129 Thank this. -
You can figure it this way .30 cpm x 50mph average speed comes to $15.00 per hour driven. .40 cpm x 50 mph average speed comes to $20.00 per hour driven. That's just for drive time, depending on what type of trucking you're doing there might be other accessorial pay for OTR.
Local will also vary by what type of local work you are doing. LTL companies pay fairly well, probably better than OTR. Other local companies might only pay between $12.00 and $15.00 per hour.
Hope this gives you some kind of idea, it's only an example of one way to figure pay. -
1) The OTR driver actually has some tax advantages over the localer; i am currently investigating this further and will report back eventually.
2) Other advantages for the OTR'er are:
a) Less commuting costs, gas etc.
b) If you're not at home, you don't have to pay to heat it or cool it.

Other advantages include...
Unpaid waiting time at shippers and receivers... maybe 30 hours per week or more.
More DOT inspections and the possibility of getting a ticket.
Never having a family life...who needs to see their wife and kids anyway?
Having the opportunity to eat some of the finest cuisine a fast food joint has to offer... or eating from a can in your truck (nothing better than some cold sardines for breakfast).
Having your 'travel agent' beep you on the Qualcomm at 3AM asking why you are parked alongside the road when you should be driving.
There are a lot of other advantages... I'll see if i can remember some more.Orlandodriver, Dubber Ruck, Coover and 6 others Thank this. -

Say the miles driven and number of stops (LTL) are the same.
What would you say was fair in CPM differencee?
exaaple...
Local .39 CPM OTR .43 CPM
Something along those lines... what would a reasonable difference be?? -
You can't compare the two. Local jobs are normally for less miles.
Less miles x less cpm < more miles x more cpm ..... always
of course, this depends on your definition of 'local'. What do you mean, inner-city?
