I don't want to be like these other rookies who go in all googly-eyed wanting to sign on a new truck and get burned. If I can find someone to hire me, I will work at the same place for 2-3 years and not buy anything. My dad owns a dump truck business and it costs so much money just to maintain the trucks that I don't want any parts of it. I don't want to work for him because he has a way of throwing stuff in my face, like if he gives me a dollar (or a job) it's like he owns me.

I hear you when you say run from trucking. But I think I can handle it. I have read the stories about layovers, no home time, low miles, sleep deprivation, illegal logging, etc, etc. I'm not going into this thinking it will be easy.

The guy who said that there are plenty of drivers out of work so why should a company choose me over them? Because they are sitting back collecting a check. Why should they go to work? And if so many experienced drivers are looking for work, why are the mills churning out new drivers every day?

One of you had said that I was only listening to BR because he was telling me what I wanted to hear. That's true. Sorry to say, but everyone else was telling me to look somewhere else. He told me it's possible. That's what I wanted to hear. Because I am not looking somewhere else until I know that it's not possible for me to be a trucker, which, after reading more posts on this thread, I am now convinced that I can do it. If I go with a company who will train me and stay with them a couple years, it may be doable.

I like the dude who said to keep my pecker in my pocket. It's been there for two years, sorry to say. But yeah, I know a few guys my age who are dads and it's a lot of stress. Not ready for that yet.

I'll let you all know what's up.

that was me & it is simple.

Unemployment doesn't pay no where near of what a driver makes. So why would a driver sit on unemployment? So if the driver chooses to collect a check, I don't blame them. Would you go from making $0.50 a mile to $0.27 a mile because your company went under? I won't take a 50% paycut either & that is why the mills are churning out new drivers every day.... Cause you fools will work for 50% less of a wage then anyone else....

Just wait till they open that Mexican border.... You'll be ######## as well when you find out that Jose is working for $0.14 a mile & your out of a job because of the low lifes who choose to steal your job because they work cheaper.

Because new drivers will work for any pay even if it's below normal.

Hmmm, soaking it all in. Yeah, I can see what you mean about how they are paying new people less and so it makes more sense to them. For a family man, I can see where .27 a mile isn't much, but for a young fool like me who just wants to get a trade under his belt and some experience, it isn't bad. Like everyone says, I will have to pay my dues, no whining, just drive my behind off and then hopefully, I'll make more after a few years. I'm not looking to get rich at first. I've got no mortgage, rent, bills, woman, kids, nothing to hold me back. Except a stupid misdemeanor. Yes, just like the one guy said, I didn't have to steal, there were other options. I have no excuse and I wish I didn't do it, but now it's done and I can only go forward.

Now your starting to come around. But if you attempt to hide the fact that you have that charge, it will only continue to come bite you is the backside. Accept it, Acknowledge it, & move forward with no skeletons.

Now like I said, call the companies you may be interested in. They will know more about their hiring strategy. Some companies will break their own rules for this driver.... But they won't budge for that one.

With the statement you have made, that I have highlighted here, I have a lot of concern about you. From my perspective, you need to do some serious growing up before you try your hand at trucking.

I guess my biggest concern here is what you posted about working for your father. Hell, you have an "IN" right there into trucking. Now I don't know, he may actually be a complete arsehole. But then again, he may not be.

Don't you think that for the long haul in life, you just might be better off to work for him as a driver for several years? Being able to show that you have already held a driving job for several years, can do nothing but help you.

It is true that this won't count as "experience" when it comes to OTR trucking. But it WILL do a couple of things. First, it will put some time between you and your misdemeanor. Second, it will show that you are responsible enough to hold down a job.

If you really think that anyone else is going to be easier to work for than your father, then all I can say is maybe it is time you did NOT choose the "easy way out."

Now that I think of it. What is wrong with the family business? Sure, you may start at the bottom of the totem pole.... But your relationship with the boss will allow you to climb that pole faster then anyone else can climb it. Plus, 10-15 years down the road the boss may want to retire. Then what is he going to do? Most of them hand the business down to their children who have commited themselves to the business.\

It's hard to explain, but he's not the type of guy I want for a boss. He's not even the type of guy I want for a dad. But the dad part I'm stuck with. He's on his fourth marriage and wonders why everyone leaves him. It's because he is mean. Unreasonably mean. Don't want to go into details, but I want no parts of his business. If he dies and leaves it to me, I'll take it, but not as long as he is around. Anyway, you all probably think I'm a spoiled brat kid who has it good and has a great opportunity with my dad, but you all just don't know him. He can't keep drivers either. But I will say he is a good businessman. He pays people on time and keeps up with taxes and all. He doesn't like me because I'm not like my sister, who is an aspiring marine biologist. She's in her third year of college. I dropped out of college. Just couldn't hack it. I like to read (I spend whole weekends in the library or bookstore-yeah, I'm weird) and tinker with my guitar. I'm a daydreamer, he says. True, but what's wrong with that? My sister is athletic, goes hiking and fishing, and all I do is play music and sometimes go to the gym. He criticizes me constantly and compares me to her and I just want to get out from under his thumb. So, sorry, I am sure you meant well suggesting I go to work for him, but I can't. If I did and was successful, and eventually bought a house or something, he would say that it was because of him, not me. He would say it was because no one would have been stupid enough to hire me, so he did and that's why I was able to succeed at buying a house.

Anyway, I talked to the Driver's Solutions guy today. So far, so good. My record doesn't seem to be problem. I was honest on my application, because you all made me. Haha. I'll talk to him later in the week when I get the materials in the mail. I will be honest because I know that the DAC or whatever it's called can really mess you up and I don't want to ruin my chances.

first of all you have yet another problem. and that is LISTENING to others and heeding their advice........i can see where you think the world revolves around you, well bub, it just don't.........you had better learn to deal with the sad fact you will not get a trucking job as easily as you think you will

and who pray tell is "the guy" at driver solutions........?? a truck driving school...........?? i'll tell you EXACTLY what he is, and that is school recruiter, who gets paid a commission on each body he signs up.............he doesn't give two flips about you whatsoever.......when you graduate and now are looking for work, and can't find it, all he can and WILL SAY is, "oh, they must have changed their policies"............and he walks away from you again, like he did when he signed you up.......and in yet ANOTHER thread you have started, you now want to know about CR England...........?? here we go again...........CR ENGLAND and ANY OTHER COMPANY, will do a full background search on you.......and CR England is a skank company, and THEY WILL turn you down...........

do as you wish, because i know for a fact, you will be here in a few weeks crying how you cannot find a job, because of your arrest/conviction record........and you're STILL going to have that student loan to pay..............
