Nah, people have done it before and gotten away with it, they think they can always get away with it. Some may get by from time to time, but karma has a way of catching up with everyone. When I first was transferred to the truck unit, most guys I worked with never checked anyone. Would do the inspection and send them on the way. Thankfully almost all of our guys run everyone we contact now. But as I travel and teach across the country I see some folks still think everyone is just a good ol' boy. Unfortunately in the world we live in, we have no clue who people are or what their intentions are. I have always lived by one rule when it comes to dealing with people I stop. I run everyone I stop and check them thoroughly.

The gentleman who tested me for my CA CDL was a retired CHP motorcycle cop. He was open about his background. I asked him if he drove a truck when he retired. He laughed at me and said "this is just a pay check son, when you get older and have a wife you will understand." I did think it was odd that he was testing me but oh well. Not alot surprises me anymore...

Couldn't have been. If my memory serves he couldn't even actually ride a motorcycle. Or maybe it was the other numb nuts on that show.

You really have to wonder about an agency that actually gave a show that was like CHiPs accolades. I guess publicity is all that is important, whether it is good or bad.

But between that and the old Highway Patrol show with Broderick Crawford, I would think the CHP would hang their collective administrative heads in shame. And I know that it embarrassed the hell out of some of the line troops. . .

But then the "powers that be," probably didn't have enough intelligence to be embarrassed by it. . .:biggrin_25513:

OK, back to the thread now, my rant is done!

    DB.....True Story
Not a CDL holder but have my own rig for hauling my horses. 1989 INT 9307 with 60" sleeper and pull a 48" van drop that I put windows in to haul the horses.
Last year took a trip out west. No issues east of the Miss. River. Once west I had all kinds of issues as nobody seemed to know what to do with me. In most cases I was telling them what the rules were for folks like me.....could have a whole other debate on this but we won't.
Anyway, I got stopped at every scale house west of the river. At least in every in state I was in. That included Nebraska, Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and North Dakota. Not one single time did I ever provide any of those crackers with a drivers license or any other piece of personal identification. All they wanted to see was the registration on the truck and trailer, proof of insurance, and charge me for a stupid fuel tax that I was able to get back from each and every other DOT within those states under the premise that I never should have been charged the tax or permit in the first place.
Far to many people out there still are not checking the ID of the driver or anybody else in the rig for that matter. It became a running joke that these scale houses were only interested in the money. Heck, I even had horses on board and never had to show a health certificate, coggins, or proof of ownership.

Nothing really I would call "stupid" the last week. Just the run of the mill speeding, log book violations and brake issues. Take care and be safe.
