    Hello.
It seems like a lot of perceived problems are caused by choosing the shortest setting instead of the fastest.
It might help to add a warning message pop up whenever the shortest option is selected. It could warn the user that choosing this option may result in more secondary roads in the route. This would probably cause 99% of users to not choose the shortest option.
And make the fastest option the default if it is not already.
My first instinct would be to set it to 80,000 and forget it regarding weight. But if customizing this would result in more effecient routing than why not make it an integral part of entering a route? If it is buried in the settings menu I am less likely to change it often but if if it asks me my weight everytime I enter a route then it is easy and I will set it. But make this setting default to the last weight entered so If I always run roughly the same load on a dedicated route or whatever I don't have to enter it every time.
I don't own a RandMcNally unit yet but I have been following this thread and others for a while. I guess I have been waiting for all the complaints to go away and be replaced with "Hey, it's working great now!" But then problems and complaints is what this thread is all about. The impression I have so far is that about half or more of the problems are user error and half are minor issues that will be addressed. It is great that that there is someone who actually listens to every problem a user has with the product and responds with a solution or at least a promise to have it looked into. I am leaning towards getting the 700 for the feature set but I would prefer a 5" screen for pocket ability. Not crazy about leaving such an expensive toy on the dash.

    Thanks

The sign may say 40ton, but the actual road attributes in the mapping database may be different. If you can remember later it would help to find and check.

Not ignoring your post... the reply is a little sensitive in the answer, so I want to make sure what I word is okay with RM.

    Thanks,
    Mark

It may be. It's knocked my dad clean out....on my bed. And my roomate, now that I squint in that direction. Looks like I'm sleeping on the floor tonight.

I'll have to get back to OTR and find some of these spots. I'm messing around local at the moment. Won't last long.

I ran about 5 navigation units when I ran a truck and was Beta testing at the same time... lot's of dish clothes over the units when shutdown..

We could place a comment about the shortest/fastest in the settings box.

Good idea about asking the gross weight each time... and yes once it is set it stays at what you put it at even when you power off\on.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Well this is a beta tester forum so everything you are gonna hear is gonna be little problems from users. I have beta tested numerous software for different companies and you are not gonna hear the people just call up and say hey its great. it just wont happen. you are gonna hear the ones that want this button moved 1mm to the right cause its too close to this line or something.

On a separate note i am very pleased with my 700 so far. it has got me right to my destination every time so far with no problems. But yeah making the fastest the default would be great along with setting the weight every time you make a new route. Also is there a way to change the default voice? Maybe add a option to get some different voices on there? Customization of a device is what sets it aprr from others. More voices and maybe different color schemes would be a great thing. The pink is just not a good choice in colors IMHO. Red maybe. Something other then pink. hahaha

Five GPS units?! You must have had a power splitter on your power splitter!
Thanks for your reply. When I have my device and have used it some I will post back with my experience.

    Hello Mattbnr,
You are absolutely right about the purpose of this thread. It was a mistake on my part to expect more positive comments because the very nature of the thread is to find (and hopefully solve) any problems with the product. In fact a post that is only praising the product without so much as even a new feature request could be seen as "Off Topic".
I now read this thread with that in mind.
I will post back when I have purchased and had a chance to use the device.

    Thanks

I am glad you are not ignoring it. I was beginning to think that you had.
I am guessing that there will be a charge for the updated map database by that answer though.
That would be a very sad thing. Since half of the info that is being changed should have been done before release, but since you did not have the info for your database then for the fixes, it was not possible.
I would say that the first one really needs to be free.
In the future I could see maybe charging for them if people want them, that would be more for updated maps.
The overlay they are using for the database, with the truck info was built at least partly on the backs of the users.
And to take the input they freely give, and then charge them to get it actually onto the unit would be wrong.

Or maybe I am reading to far into your answer.
