a great website to check out is www.cpap.com
the resmed s8 is nice. it has a data port for your doctor to check your usage for your compliance letter that you will need to get threw orientation with your new company.
also ask your equipment suplier if your machine has a dc adapter option assesory. i have noticed most do. that way you won't need an inverter right off. if not get you a cobra 800 watt inverter that plugs in to the cig/power point

On the inverter...be sure to use a SINE WAVE inverter. They protect better against variances in power going into the CPAP. Schneider will install one for me in my truck for $200, taken out over several payments. I haven't done this as yet, as I do not use the humidifier in the truck, just the air pump. It will run just fine on the 12v, although they still recommend using the Sine Wave inverter.
Good luck! -

my bother uses the s8 with the humidifier using the dc plug with no problems what so ever. -

Sir you may be working for Prime and happy there, that's your thing. But lets get something straight about that company. It has a D rating on it's lease purchase program by the BBB and a class action lawsuit they lost to OOIDA in the last 5 years. The turnover rate is horrid and the trainees of that company are some of the most exploited in the Industry. Just look to the Bad trucking Company thread for the HUNDREDS of complaints on this forum verified.
BMI is not a true measure of health. I am considered overweight but unload approx 100,000 lbs of freight at retail stores every week by hand and have ran a 5 k in the last 2 months. My BMI is 29%. Brock lesner NCAA champion Wrestler, gold medal winner, WWE champoin, former NFL lineman, and Current MMA fighting star has a BMI of 35% according to the calculator I am giving you a link for at the bottom. he is a borderline hire based on his size for your company prime at 6ft2 and 270 lbs!
http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/
Prime's policy is not to hire anyone with a BMI of 38% or more meaning if Brock Lesner put on 8-9 more pounds he is unfit to work for prime and would be turned down in the phone interview. It's right on the company website. I only know what the driver told me, he was getting fired for being too fat and said I didn't believe him but called the recruiter to ask about the BMI policy. That's real and she listed the health problems you said and sleep apnea as the reason when i talked to her.
This thread is about the discrimination of people with sleep apnea and health problems. The BMI limits are not only being used to screen out the things you listed but sleep disorders as well.
The whole BMI thing Prime is using is sexist to because women are by nature programed to store fat around hips and breast for child rearing. The US Army gives women 10-14% more BMI than they do males for this reason in the PRT. It also discriminates against people over 50 and black people who tend to have more hyper-tension problems.
This has nothing to do with trucking. It's prime discriminating for the purpose of saving a few bucks on health insurance because the market is full of drivers and people looking to get exploited, sorry I meant trained. Scott Gross got sued by former employees who were fired for staying heavy and smoking when the company forbade it. I hope prime gets the same treatment. it's a bottom feeder and you know it. Your probally one of the Owner Ops there taking out students and keeping what they earn in return for teaming with them for a couple of months. Those poor fools get basically lunch money. -
Yes it can affect your being hired. My Brother drove for Yellow for years. Has a perfect driving and work history. When Yellow starting having their problems, he decided to try a different job so he left and went to hauling fuel. He was hired on and everything was going great until he went to his physical. On the form he checked that he had surgery (7 years earlier) for sleep apnea and everything came to a stop. He spent the next two weeks having to go to some place where they could watch him sleep. He did get hired on but it took several weeks to clear all that up and he was under a great deal of stress, seeing how he just left a job that he been with for years, only to almost not get hired on with the new company after everything else was a go. That was about a year and half ago.

thats crap about firing people overweight. i am a big guy, i'm around 6'2 and 340 but i hold my own and then some. my job right now at a dairy company involves me unloading roughly 10 to 14 thousand pounds of milk A DAY, anyone on here thats worked at a dairy company can tell you, moving those stacks of milk around aint easy.. i'm by no means saying all people out of shape can work but to make it a black and white thing like that is ridiculous. and for the record i am losing weight, and hitting the gym because i do want to be in better shape. but that really ticked me off. F that company and any of them doing that. they should evaluate your work performance not fire you on the spot for being passed a certain bmi. the company im at now has a trial day, you dont get paid for it, i was glad to come work for free because i know id do a better job then the 15 guys that came before me and thats why i was hired for the year round position and not the possibility of being year around like the other 5 guys we hired the last month.

I did not got back and look for the quotes. However, I have heard several things lately that are not right.
I must say this first. Any time there is some kind of problem with a company, there needs to be in informal discussion to see if the problem can be solved. This may even be written into some of the laws that will be mentioned here.
If someone is fired simply for being overweight after being first hired, should have some recourse under the EEOC or the ADA.
And a company who posts that they will not hire someone with a BMI of some number, as far as I know is working on shaky ground as well, as long as they can preform all other functions of the job.
Just some thoughto.m.d. Thanks this.
