Thanks Wulfman! How about transportation, are you on your own there? Btw, are you still going to the sept. 7th class? I found out today that I am accepted for their school and that would probably be the one I would go to. Haven't made a final decision yet though.

The hotel is not included in the Inital Training cost. It's seperate. Also there is a cost of $2500 for OTR training also. It's not discussed until you get to class. Same as the others - it's deducted up to one year - then if still employed - it's forgiven.

I don't have any other cost deducted from my pay - only the training costs and my inverter. I purchased it at the BRF Terminal and had it installed.

Hope that helps - if not - let me know.

Another week in the books - was a great week also!

Started the same cycle once again.........South GA to NY or CT and then back again. Then grabbed a run to New Hampshire which was ok with me since it was good miles and I have never been to NH. Only bad part of this was - since I ran overnight to get a load delivered on time last weekend - I have been stuck in the overnight driving mode. Have run the almost the entire week at night. Yes less traffic - but just makes it even harder to sleep during the day with all the noise. Not to mention it eats up your hrs fast.

As you know my son is coming home - I first heard about it last Friday but no date was given so I didnt request home time. Well I get the call and it's delayed again. I get another call on Tuesday - now it's set for this Friday. So I send in a request to get a run down south so hopefully I can be in South GA when he arrives back to FT Benning.

To my amazement - I not only did I get a run from NH south - my dispatcher hooked up a repower for me to speed it up so I can get there. I was so stoked!

Set off from NH on Wednesday over to Versailles CT to grab a paper load. It's set for Chicago - but meeting my repower in Scranton PA and grabbing his load going to South GA. All is well - then POOF - my ex calls me and says his arrival is moved up to Thursday night. Crap..............

Well - no way I can get from Sranton to S. GA that fast so will miss his arrival. Ran hard as crap on Wednesday - got to Scranton and swapped loads then went about 2 hrs further on so I could get closer since I have been running so hard - I have no more than about 8.25 to 8.50 hrs a day to run. Get up Thursday at the "butt crack of dawn" head down 81 to 77. Hit about 4 back up's/accidents/construction issues along the way but made it to Rock Hill SC. Will hit the sleeper very soon so I can hit the road at about 3am. Let dispatch know on Tuesday there was no way I could make the 6am delivery time Friday - but if my planning works - should be there by 10am. Dispatch says - "works for me"! Let's hope tomorrow goes well and I can get there by 10am. Been there before and they are not real pleasent people when you miss a delivery time no matter what the reasons(s).

Looked over my miles since going solo on the 20th of July - have averaged about 3200 to 3350 a week in miles. Always hit the mile bonus and still rolling hard. This week will be lower as I am taking Friday and Saturday off to spend it with my son - but I so needed a reset anyway. I have been rolling for about 30 days straight.

Have met some really great drivers the past two weeks and each have been very open and willing to offer me advice and suggestions. One even stayed at a receiver longer to ensure I knew the ropes at that location. (very much appreciated)!!!!!!! I payed it forward to a certain extent - arrived at a receiver and the same guy that helped me the prior day - rolled in just as I was done being unloaded. We talked for a moment and I helped him back in. When he opened his doors - his load locks didnt hold and the last 3 pallets of his load had shifted to one side and spilled all over the end of the trailer. I stayed as long as I could to help him get it picked up - but had to leave as I had a dispatch. Hope he understands I couldnt stay any longer to help!

Big Ol' Shout out to my dispatcher! He came through for me and got me to GA and never questioned it. I owe you one man! Once again I am reminded that I made the right choice by coming to Millis.

Be safe and will catch up in a few days! Be safe out there!

I gotta get to shop and have look at drive tires. my opion is time for 8 new ones. this trucks does not like hills. it crawls up them and goes hot to where alarms go off. 20 mph going up hill in west virginia on i-470 east. can't make any time at 64 mph either. but on the very bright side glad to hear your boy is coming home. i hope he kicked thier BUTTS over there and showed them what the us troops can and will do! give him a great big thanks from my family! if you and him are going to tip a few to celebrate have one on me and i'll pay up when i bump into you.

Baritone, Great to read your posts about your experience. i am now displaced worker but was a supervisor on the BP Deep Water Horizion Oil clean up operations in Panama City Beach,. FL. I also did a blog while working the clean up and sometimes we worked 74 hours in one week! It's nice to see experiences first hand. I want to go with Shaffer but they do not have any schools in FL and they cost to much in GA. I use to live in Marietta years ago. I will look into Willis too after your great experiences.

Hey Baritone, Congrats on your son's return. Be sure to thank him for his service on behalf of us posters here. I have really enjoyed your thread. I will be in Trenton in less than 10 days to begin my Millis Journey.

I have a couple of monetary questions that I hope you don't mind me asking. If you do I won't take offence I can ask when I get there, but, as I'm sure you know, when your getting this close, its hard to think of much else than being prepared as best you can. I understand they deduct $10 per week for the motel room. What I forgot to ask them is what is the total bill for the hotel? In your post you mentioned your inverter being payroll deducted, I was wondering what the total and per week costs are? Last question I forgot to ask is: How long is the waiting period for health insurance? I imagine this period begins when you begin getting a training payroll check. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Again, I'm sorry for the monetary questions. I personally dislike when people ask "how much did you pay for that?" they usually are just nosey and if they were seriously interested would go to the dealer/store and find out.

    Thanks in advance!

Had a few days from hell. I-55 was shut down for a fuel spill. Sat for 3 hours. An hour late to the beer distributor. They wouldn't unload me and told me come back tomorrow. I showed up at 6am and they said to park elsewhere and come back at 11:15. At said time I got in line behind 3 other trucks and finally got unloaded at 2pm. In turning around in the parking lot I had backed into the curb and pulled the mud flap off of the trailer. I had to go to East St Louis to get that fixed. I finally got to Pontoon Beach to get a loaded wagon at 4pm, delivers in Beaver Dam WI before midnight. I should probably mention that I had in a home time request for noon that day because I had a gig scheduled for that night. I stopped to pee twice and ran straight to Beaver Dam otherwise. I was hallucinating by the time I got there but made it by 11:58pm. I then grabbed and empty and ran like hell for home. I passed 4 cops who were apparently asleep or didn't want to bother a tired old trucker because I was hauling ###. I got to the club in time to play 2 songs...then I got stopped by a cop just as I was pulling into my driveway because my wife's car has expired tags. Now that I've had a shower and some sleep I can laugh about it all.

Quick aside. I love my T2000 and don't want a newer truck unless it is another one. I trained in a 660 and the ability to see out the right window is nice but I'll take my chances on pulling out in front of someone in order to keep the glorious elbow room of my big Bertha.

Hey - No worries on the questions.....if they are too personal to post then just PM my e-mail me.

I did have those same questions and managed my money to the penny each day. The hotel cost I am sure will vary depending on the location and state due to taxes and cost of living in each area. Check with the hotel when you get there - they'll have no problem telling you. I shared a room so mine was 25 a night for 3 weeks. So you can do the math.

Then the cost of the school and OTR training. Just remember that is forgiven after one year. The inverter was much higher than buying one yourself at a T/S and having them install it. However, I didnt have time to get one and when I did stop they were out of the 1500 and 2000 watt inverters at that t/s. I elected to just get it at BRF and have them install it and so on. But it's done and it works great. I have a 1750 watt inverter and it runs my microwave, tv/dvdplayer, cell phones and lap top. Not to mention my crock pot and george forman and electic skillet. Can run them all at one time - but you get the idea.

Insurance is 90 days from Hire date. You'll get your expected hire date once you get into training. Good luck and you'll be just fine in Trenton.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Had same issues with my truck when I first got it. Once I rolled into BRF they changed tires, mirrors and anything else I wanted. I also have the same issue with pulling hills. With any real weight on - I usually get the warning lights - oil temp goes off the chart and so on. However, in cooler climates I still get hot - but it hasnt pegged out. Had them check it again while in Trenton last week and couldnt find anything wrong - (what a surprise).

I wanted a T2 for the room - but I am happy with my 600 and will keep her until she either dies on me or they give me something else. I have spent too much time cleaning her up and so on to let her go now.

    Hey Everyone -

Just stopped for the night in Northern Indiana close to 80/94 split. Long Day but productive.

Had a awesome day and a half with my son(s) - got him moved into his new apartment and all settled. Well at least until he leaves for Germany in 90 days. It's apparent he's been through a lot and I didnt push the issue to ask to what extent - maybe he'll tell me over time. He starts his (reacclamation) classes tomorrow so should help him. But he hasnt lost his sense of humor which was in rare form.

Got a reset in during my time with him so rolled out of Cartersville at 6am this morning and stopped Hebron, IN. Ran about 600 miles today. Only have about 150 left for tomorrow and have a 1PM delivery time, so no rush in the morning - which is good. Oh forgot to mention - finally found time last Friday to get my truck washed. Then it rained the entire trip back to GA.

Miles have been great - have ran 14,389 since July 20th. Averaging about 3500 per week so I am not complaining - even with a reset in there. Sure hope it continues. I am due for a C-Service in about 2K miles but I am hopefull it's delayed a bit.

Not sure where I will go once I deliver - but man am I loving the cooler temps in Northern IN tonight. Nice breeze and about 74 degrees. Gotta love that.

    Stay Safe and Take Care
