When You are driving Down the ROAD in a Truck Stop, at a Shipper or Receiver remember these things.
When you are driving down the Road and you CHOOSE not to turn on your CB and a driver is Passing you reach up FLIP the Headlights when he/she is CLEAR of your HOOD that is PROFESSIONAL Courtesy.
IF You pass someone and they GIVE you the LIGHTS HIT The interrupt switch, or turn on your hazards for 3 seconds tell the other DRIVER Thanks, THIS Is a PROFESSIONAL COURTESY.
IF you are Driving a GOVERNED Truck and another Slow truck is passing you at 5 feet per MILE back off a LITTLE Bit, let them by. THIS IS a PROFESSIONAL COURTESY. 3 seconds will not make you late.
IF YOU are Driving down the ROAD and you see a Broke DOWN Big truck on the SIDE of the ROAD if you do not ask on the CB and you do not tell the Drivers behind you, MOVE OVER do not RUN The Yellow LINE next to the TRUCK on the SIDE of the ROAD THIS IS a PROFESSIONAL COURTESY,
When you are in the TRUCK STOP Parking LOT, the Professional way to drive around is 10mph NOT IN 9th GEAR in a drag race.
Being a PROFESSIONAL is Something you will never learn in SCHOOL, it comes from RESPECTING the others out here.
If you choose not to run your CB and you will not Let a Slow truck who has you by 1/2 mph by, and you choose to run through the truck stop at 55mph, you are nothing more than a worthless Steering wheel holder who will not be out here for long. The folks who have been out here will help you if you approach them with an OPEN Mind, and show a Sincere willingness to learn.
TO all you "Oldtimers" 20 years or MORE When one of these rookies ask you something Have some patience YOU and I both had to start somewhere, Give them a Brake instead of Belittling them and Blowing them off, Offer them some POSITIVE advice that IS A PROFESSIONAL COURTESY.
WE are all out here doing the same JOB why should we always have to fight to get things done, of all people Drivers should be able to count on other DRIVERS, regardless if he/she is GREEN and just out of School, or if it some Oldtimer who has been out here since Noah Built the ARC We all need to Work on Being MORE Professional. We fight Four Wheelers, Dispatchers, Brokers, Receivers, and try to maintain a Family life, that all in itself is enough stress to kill a person why should we as Drivers Make it any harder?
Working togther we can be awesome, fighting one another well we will still get Crap Pay, and be angry at the end of the Day for NO Reason.

Good post Doc, hopefully a lot of new guys (and those who don't know what their doing) will not only read this but use this good info!
One other thing to throw in there for you new guys, I know drivers talk a lot of crap on the radio and a lot of you new guys are gun shy conversing on the cb but whatever you do, you should at the very least keep it on maybe with the volume turned down low so that you can hear what's going on. Guys the cb has saved my life numerous times. If you have the ability to know what's going on up ahead in front of you then use it. There is going to be that day when you come up over a hill or around a sharp corner and who knows the situation, but lets say there's a big rig on its side across the road. Those of you that run with the radio on will know there is an unforseen accident up ahead and have the ability to stop in time and warn others of the impending crash. Those of you who don't use the radio will one day become part of that unforseen accident in which you had no warning. Actually you probably did have warning, you just did not have your cb on!
Really important guys! This could save your life!

I am just hopeing that all that professional courtesy is still out there. I remember headed to Fla w/ my Dad and he would ALWAYS put the CB in the family car so he could keep up. And he was a cop.

That stuff might have went over back in the day...but it's a whole new ballgame out there now.
The low rates/wages have pushed out most of the professional drivers.
I see it everyday out there.
Everyday, I drive through 4 tunnels...speed is 55 mph through and no trucks allowed in the left lanes.
And EVERYDAY a truck will go flying though at 65+ and passing people in the LEFT LANE.
Up the hills, no trucks in the left lane...well guess what, there's morons passing people in the left lane heavy in the box bogged down at 50 mph and blocking up traffic behind them.
Construction zones are 40 mph...they're blasting through at 65...mad as hell at you for slowing down.
Slower traffic keep right...there's always a moron in the middle lane who won't get over and drivers are passing on the right.
These are not once-in-a-while happenings, EVERYDAY I see this stuff going on!!!!
I don't flash people over period...sick and tired of drivers cutting over without a turn signal and no flashing me back.
I will back it off to let a guy over...but I rarely get the same courtesy.
Sometimes, it takes forever to get around a truck because the a-hole won't back off a little bit to let me over.
I've even tried to go around guys and they've sped up when they see me coming around them.
Part of this is that I'm LTL and the OTR guys HATE us...I can understand that to some extent.
But it's still no reason to act like an unprofessional ###.
Turn on the CB...mostly it's in spanish or redneck slang I can barely comprehend.
The foul language is beyond belief...I don't turn the CB on anymore unless there's a brake check up ahead.
I dunno, I'm just glad to make it home some nights in one piece.jakebrake12, Gereke and Lonesome Thank this. -
I keep mine squelched down low. If I hear a lot of chatter on it I will turn it up and the stereo down. If its some political conversation or shut up stupid happening I turn it back down. A back up will produce chatter and its best to know about it ahead of time even if you have to put up with some childish crap on the CB.hunts2much, johnday and Wedge Thank this. -
Haha.. I'm guessing he's just like me dude.. His LTL line-haul buddies already called back and he's blowing by the back-up on the skinny road without ever turning the dial to the nuisance known as 19 right.. We hit 19 when we're running flat out on a little road within plain view of I66 passing all the big trucks that passed us on I81 though.. Then we do it again on Rt 1 bypassing all the I95 construction - the LTL drivers use phones dude.. A UPSF driver called my Con-way buddy and the info was relayed to at least 15 drivers at 3 companies.. When you see 15 sets get off at a given exit there is definitely a reason..Paddington, zebcohobo and Miles_Of_Truckin Thank this.
