I've been looking all over the internet to see if I could find any information on class 8 trucks with liftable axles and I haven't found anything at all.
I am specifically looking for suppliers and prices on parts (in dollars) and how much it would cost to install stateside.
My company want's to buy a used Kenworth and so we are comparing prices to see if it is cheaper to get one in the US and have it rebuild there or buying it in Germany.
Liftable rear axle.

I know from my European travels that liftable tractor axles are very common, but that is not the case here. Over here most class 8 trucks come with tandem driven rear axles. Additional (third) axles may be driven, but non-liftable (very common here in the Canadian oil industry). More common are non-driven liftable axles in either tag (behind the driven axles) or pusher (ahead of the driven axles) configuration. Most tractor tag or pusher axles only have a single wheel.
Hendrickson (which does business all over the world, including Europe) does have liftable axles for tractors, but they are not driven.
Good luck on your search.Michael Sjoberg Thanks this. -
cost me 8,000 for the tag axle, heavy duty front axle as well. Thats DOT's newest pet peve in the USA now. If you dont have a mfr. data plate with the tag axle on it , its disallowed.

It can be done in Europe but the price for a reconfiguration is a bit steep even if it's done in Germany...and they charge about half of what we would have to pay in my home country.
That is why we would like to find out if it would be cheaper to have the pusher axle installed in America.
The truck is going to haul containers from ports in northern Germany to Denmark and Sweden and since we move a lot of empty containers we don't need all the wheels on the ground all the time...so to speak. -
If you want a truck that had two drive axles and a liftable pusher there are ton of them available just that way. The T800 with a tandem and liftable pusher is about the most common intermodal/container truck I've seen.

But maybe I haven't been too specific about what my boss wants.
He is looking to have a three axle truck like this...

Your not going to find that in the USA.

And why is that?
