My friends and I were discussing the drinking limit with a CDL. Our town police has given a couple people we know a DUI for being over .04 just because he has a CDL. In Illinois at least, its .04 for commercial, .08 for everyone else. Now is it true that when you have a CDL, but you are driving your personal car, you are still stuck with the .04 threshold? Or is .04 ONLY if your in a truck?
I'm a social drinker, I rarely drink till I'm drunk. I usually have 4-5 beers on weekend once or twice a month. But I have no idea what I would blow even tho I'm sober.
I just want to be clear on this, because if it .04 for me now, then from now on I'll let the girlfriend drive. Cuz .04 sounds like it would be easy to go over.

once a person so much as just gets a CDL permit, they come under ALL CDL rules.......

as drivers, either personal or truck, we come under the .04 limits.........and you CANNOT have been drinking 4 hours prior to being dispatched.

1 beer, 1 glass of wine, 1 shot of whiskey ALL have about the SAME amount of alcohol...........!! '

which means, 1 OF ANYTHING, and you are legally over the limit......!!!!

actually i am quite surprised...........are you in any trucking school right now..........?? if so, then you SHOULD have the state CDL manual where it CLEARLY STATES what i have just said...............so why would you question this..........????

You paid and went through a lot to get that CDL. It is your "bread and butter"! Why would you even chance it! It is cheaper to drink at home anyway. I know, I guess you have to put up with your old lady though.

Why anyone would drink and drive is beyond me. Then to top off they are putting their livelihood in jeopardy is something else that amazes me. If your gonna drink either drink at home or use a taxi/dd.

Then you don't have to worry about any of the legal limits crap.

People have problems and would rather drink them away than talk about them. .04 applys.

I could have sworn that it was no drinking for 8 hours before.
And if you are actually in a truck it is 0.0 no tolerance at all for alcohol in the system. As it should be.

This has come up before in the forums, and several law enforcement officers came on. It is a state by state thing with most states having the same .08 for all drivers including CDL holders, if they are in a non-commercial car.

    Shhhhhhhhhhh be quiet !!!

Can you imagine the amount of "bail out" legislation that would be passed....from jail.

It would triple the national debt in 2 weeks.
