The only time i have ever used my trailer brakes is when im docking. other then that i never use them. The yellow knob is labeled Parking Brake for a reason i assume. The red knob (at least in our trucks) says "not used for parking".

Yes, when I am adjusting brakes I will set the tractor, mind you on level ground, and adjust the trailer, then I will set the trailer and release the tractor to adjust it.

We have an old Freightliner yard tractor that sits about 2" higher in the rear than the other trucks at the plant. If someone drops a trailer the way you said to, and I have to get it with the yard dog, I'm gonna be cussin.....

okay, thanks for all this information.... yeah that trailer brake on the steering wheel I didn't dare touch. I am not afraid of any tractor.....but Man does the trailer intimidate me! My instructor asked me why? I said because it exists and it pivots and I resent that! lol I did get more comfortable with it, but to be honest when i look at it in the mirror.......I loathe that flipping thing! lol

just wait awhile nd--soon you will learn to love it and loath bobtailing
NDBADLANDS and Mountainman444 Thank this. -
Id rather pull a 48' trailer than a 10 foot trailer, they are easier to pull.
All it is, is getting used to it, eventually it will become second nature.NDBADLANDS Thanks this. -
and if you get your own truck--you will learn to love the spike as well
if you are pulling company trailers--should never be a reason to ever replace brakes on your own truck -
I made the grave mistake of not jumping into a tractor-trailer a few years back.
I was encouraged to do so....but I was comfortable in my straight truck.
Well I signed up for the local school and of course did fine.....but it is ok isn't if i will always have a spot for a straight truck?
I love driving truck and I will learn to love the trailer. -
nevermind..........

You'd be the first guy griping too when the company wants to keep their percentage of the FSC. That is a bad practice. Selfish.
