I'm starting my research into the trucking industry. I'm learning a lot from this site and really appreciate all the good advice and honesty here. The one thing I'm not seeing much of is advice from the lady truckers. How is life on the road as a female? What is the attitude toward lady drivers? I know the girls are out there, I've seen you on the road...is there anything I need to know I"m not hearing from the men?

Ohhhhhhh there's lots of advice from lady truckers on this forum and you will find that they have a distinct and different view of things than their male counterparts ... don't quite understand why it is that they can look at the same situation as a man can and come out with a completely different take on what's happening ... guess it's just part of being a female.

They make good drivers for the most part ... they don't get bent out of shape quite as easily ... more laid back ... and when two females are talking together they always understand what they mean when they say,"well, this thingy and that thid-a-ma-jig just ain't working right" ......... go figure!

By and large though, methinks they are an asset to the trucking community and they make life more interresting and fun.

Taarna, Welcome to the TTR - first thing I would recomend is read this thread. It will take you a long day or two to get through it but you will have a great overview of what ALL truckers (ladies included) will experiance druring the begining of this new carrer. http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...rivers/112266-help-a-trucker-wannabe-out.html

Next theres the "Ladies Room" thats a forum in the General Section for the ladies to rant and rave in.

Hope that helps. Enjoy yourself the folks here are great!

I would say the lack of restrooms and having to ask a guy for assistance if necessary are the 2 biggest drawbacks for a female driver. Most of the time, not always, females are not mechanically inclined and sometimes are too weak to pull that 5th wheel pin or the tandems pin.

Welcome to the forum and good luck! My view on trucking is different than some women's as I team with my husband. It's different than a solo female driver and boy do I respect those women driving solo!

http://womenintrucking.org/ -- the "useful links" page is, well, useful.

There's a film -- "Alligator On The Zipper." It's a documentary about women who drive. Worth looking for and worth watching. Just Google "Alligator On The Zipper."

If you want to drive you can.

Also, just thought of this, here's a couple of blogs by women who drive (just titles, not links): "Road Rage" and "Gab's A Trucker." You can post comments and questions on their blogs.
