So I am all set to start school in Buffalo on the 7th. Im both anxious and a little nervous. The course in Buffalo is 4 weeks instead of 3. Both good and bad I guess. The good is that I will get an extra week of training and the bad is thats an extra week of not getting paid. Once thats done I ship out to GA for orientation.
Id like to thank all the posters that have contributed to this thread. I was going back and forth with myself on whether to go with Central or Swift. I actually picked Swift first but they were not taking students out of NY at this time. Im kind of glad because over the last week I have been happy to be going to Central instead. Without posters like you all, I could have very easily ended up and CR England. I am so happy that I found this forum before I signed up. So again thank you all for your continued contributions.mikley28 Thanks this. -
Hey king,
Correct they did not hire in FL but that changed two weeks ago. But its only for Central FL and up. South from here its still a no go.The Challenger Thanks this. -
I think swift is only taking students from AZ. At least thats what they told me a year ago. So I came to central.

Are you happy there? Are you getting decent paychecks? -
you mean here. I drive for Central. I'm content here they are giving me 2500-3600 miles/wk so my paychecks arent bad. They havent messed with me yet like everyone else claims they messed with them. The longest I sit without a load is probably about 4 hours. so YMMV.
So good luck in school. When you are on your own, have a good attitude about stuff and remember that you will RARELY get a perfect load. (Just look at alot of my posts about the loads I get. From broken trailers to impossible to deliver on time and near impossible docks to back in to.) Hell, my next load i need to deadhead 400 miles to pick up a load for 200 miles. All I can say is just deal with it and make the best of it. At first you will probably get about 1800-2400 miles until you prove yourself and show them that you are reliable and have good trip planning skills. As with all jobs, dont fall into the negative hoopla with the other drivers (cliques). Be your own person. -
Was it solo drivers or teaming only???

Hey fellow Central Refrig drivers...... I am currently pre-hired through Prime and Stevens. Both are Reefers. I looked into Central a few months back, however was told to stay away. However, I have been reading this post for a week now.... lots of information, and wanted your 2 cents if possible. I know Stevens will starve me to death with their pay and I've heard Prime has a good training program. Just wanted to know which of the two would be better. Thanks.

they all have their pros and cons. Its not something we can answer and like all the companies your mileage will vary... literally and figuratively. You might want to ask about each on their company DAC forums. SOMEONE left central and went to big blue and wishes he were back or he did as of his last post a couple weeks ago. As for training, it depends on your trainer. I was trained by an old school trucker driving for central. so he wasnt really just in it for the miles. He actually taught me ALOT of stuff. You have the right to switch trainers if you dont like yours. IF you do, try to get an old school trucker as a trainer. They gave a whole different view on training then the 'young gun' trainers.maverick77 Thanks this.
