I spoke with Roehl again today, now they say I'm out of their hiring area and would not be able to hire me. Now I can understand if I was in a state they didn't hire from, but they do hire from my state, Maine, however I am 90 miles outside the hiring area you would think they'd give a little. I thought they were needing drivers from the Northeast.
I also called Schneider and the told me they won't take anyone with a Maine driver's license.
I really don't want to go to Swift or Prime, from what I've heard on the boards here.
Any ideas? I am looking for training/job....
Roehl said no, very disappointed

Swift really isn't as bad as the boards make them sound. They are the largest company out there, so just by numbers alone they will have more adversaries than others!
I personally know quite a few drivers who have been with them for ten plus years and are satisfied.
Any job is what YOU make it!
Besides, if you took to heart all the comments on every trucking board, you wouldn't want to work for any company out there! -
Thanks for your response!
I called Swift and they told me that the were not hiring from my state.
I'll keep looking! -
File under co-miseration: I have found at least a half-dozen national carriers which draw the line at Grand Rapids MI... 2 hours south of here.
Living in a quiet little community does have some drawbacks.

It does, but I live only 30 mins from Calais on the US/CA border, seems very busy there!

a lot of drivers don't even have regular addresse. they use PO boxes. what if you got a PO BOX in the area they hire in and use that as your address? i dunno. just a thought

Years ago, there was a small fleet owner in White Cloud, MI, who would hire drivers from northern Michigan only if they agreed to reimburse for the extra fuel whenever they took the truck home.

Question for ya, Crazylane...how often do you want to be home?
There's lots of co's that run the Northeast. Most drivers hate the NE like Muslims hate Jews. I'm thinking if you don't have to be home every ten minutes and are willing to run in that area, you're bound to find some company who'll be all "He's in the Northeast? Grab him quick!" They'll be happy to have a driver who might know the area somewhat and will take a load up there just to get home.
I can't believe you're having that much trouble.

My CDL school classmates and I found that out about Roehl too. They won't hire anyone in Michigan that lives north of I-94. -
As of right now it looks like I am going with Prime.
