Their position was that for the run, from Romulus to Indy, they alotted 5.25 hours (BTW, it is 280 miles if you run US24, and 300 if you run I94 to I69) and that was it. Even to the point where when I hooked up to a trlr and found a small tear in the emergency airline, and told dispatch about it, I was told by the dispatch supervisor to hurry up and get moving, because time was ticking away ( and I would be written up for being late).
Needless to say, I stopped as I needed to, especially since Indy would keep us waiting, sometimes up to 4 hours (which would invariably put you over your 14 if you were logging as you go).
I'm glad they're in my rear view...

Two things that thankfully we don't have where I work are alotted run times and forced routing. I could not and will not work under such conditions.
What's the point in telling a dispatcher about that? They can't do anythihg about busted air lines. Just go get it fixed and be on your way. If someone were to tell me that, I would have to laugh all the way out the door. They can either fix in the shop or out at a scale somewhere. -
About the air line, we had to clear (with dispatch) which truck we could/were driving for our shift. So when I discovered the leak, and saw the shop was closed, I had to go into the dispatch office and get 'cleared' to take another truck. At first he tried to get me to run the truck, I said no. After that, he 'issued' me another truck and told me to get going.
As far as forced routing goes, we don't have that. But, they allot drivers 5.25 hrs for the run, the driver gets to pick how he/she gets there. -
Now, if you were to establish a pattern of doing a linehaul in say, 4 hours, and one night it takes you 5 hours, due to weather, traffic issues, or whatever, then they might ask some questions where I work. But the worst thing linehaul drivers have to put up with here is being handed a stack of bills after running all night and someone telling them "Here. Go deliver this stuff".
-
Yeah I hear you, it would happen at Central too -mostly on saturday, as 'overtime' or whatever you want to call it. The drivers that did it were doing the same run I was, so you know whatever they were delivering was done completely illegally (like dispatch gave a crap!)
-
Are you serious? You mean Central's linehaul drivers would get sent back out on city work on a Saturday?!?!
-
Only by choice, and it was usually the same driver every time.
-
Yeah, but when you soaked that DOT officer, I bet you had some explaining to do.
-
Nope. I attempt to be at least somewhat discreet about that.

I live in Columbus Ohio I plan to move down to Tampa in three or four months. The company I'm with now isn't in Florida. I was wandering about Central Transport as a local p/d hourly driver? I haven't noticed much on this thread about local p/d. If anyone can tell me about a good local\hourly company out of Tampa Florida that will help alot. Thanks on any info about this company or any other company
