Thanks for the tip! Sounds like that may be a winner. I'm just araid that someone will take that away from me and beat the crap outta me! I'm not a big person and wonder if I would be intimidating enough for an attacker if they saw me w/ it? I don't know... may get me out of a tight situation though... thanks a ton!

Essentially, if you stayed with a company until you got back your tuition, then yes, it would be 'free' so-to-speak. And although you can deduct the entire cost of your education from your tax return, keep in mind that it isn't a tax 'credit' where you can remove your tax obligation dollar for dollar. A deduction is worth only cents on the dollar.

As to the 'why' of peolpe chosing not to go to a community college program, many chose to do so because they feel they are able to get their CDL and get on the road faster. Of course, that scenario has its downside, depending on the private school. I'll never forget during my orientation when two applicants announced that they had no idea how to do a log book and had no clue as to hours of service.:biggrin_25521: That was a jaw-hitting-the-floor moment for a lot of us that day. For me, it amply demonstrated the wisdom of carefully and thoughtfully chosing any trucking school option, be it through a community college or through a private provider.

Rosy, it's not an intimidation weapon but it can be a lifesaver. Eg... punk grabs you, your fist wrapped tightly around the "leveller" goes to nose, ear, eye or, if you want to chance killing the mook, adam's apple. Punk grabs you from behind, backfist to nuts. Like being hit by a rock. It worked just dandy on an armed punk that outweighed me by 100 pounds.:biggrin_25523:

all the truck companies that have adopted the whole school training deals are all pretty much the same.if you don't go to a college or outside school to get your cdl then i guess they are good to get your cdl.if you have ok credit most schools will take you on with no money out of pocket.then once you get your cdl they will help you find a job alil bit better than the truck company /school mills.and most companies will pay back the school if you stay with them a year.you will be on the hook for a bit less than if u went to say cre or stevens.but bottom line is you will be at the bottom of the pole for a bit.

i'd say 80 to 90% of students never stay at there first company long enough for the loan to be paid for them.....and i'd also add that if your heart is set to be home all the time and ##### about not getting home every 2 weeks then more often than not that will be your down fall and you won't be driving for very long."b4 i get jumped on lmao i better say im talking about your first year or so" once you build up a good driving record then you will find much better jobs with reg home time.

Keep your tire thumper and a 3 D cell Mag lite by the door, easy to grab and real easy to explain why you have them. A can of bee killer will stop ANY ONE and can be used out to about 20 feet! Use the excuse of allergy to bee stings and no problem. But for the most part no one will bother you as long as you have the right attitude and look. Just dress for work(avoid the "working girl" clothes) and keep your head up walk in a direct path to where your going
Some states regulate stun guns, and even pepper spray, That being said I'd keep a stun gun (not Taser) in the sleeper, but DO NOT USE PEPPER SPRAY INSIDE THE TRUCK!!!!!!! Good luck in your new endeavor

    gdyupgal and roadtriprosy Thank this.
