I may have quoted the wrong person in my previous post. It almost looks like Mr. Dickjones was agreeing with me. If so, I apologize to him for my response. My main point is I am an adult and I neither want nor need electronic gadgets onboard my truck doing my work for me. Anyone who needs these devices probably needs to go back through training. IMHO.

 

Would that not be the difference between a "Professional Truck Driver (Trucker)" and a "Professional Steering Wheel holder"?

 

Make mine chocolate pie...not this crap mousse pie they sell today...the old fashioned kind my gramma made with thick chocolate pudding and a skin on top of it because she didn't put plastic wrap over it while it cooled off. And a salty crust that vaporizes when you touch it with your fork....

ahhh I remember those posts now. He told me to "chill". I always find it interesting when a man assumes that a woman is reacting emotionally simply because she disagrees with him. I believe it to be masculine insecurity. Secure and confident men are not threatened by women who think for themselves.

 

That was it for me as a kid, when the family would get togeather we would go to this restarant in Livingston Montana down on main street called the sport, they used to have awesome pie alamode and some of the best french onion soup I have ever tasted.

 

There are a lot of really really insecure people in this world today, and worse many more who are uneducated.

My girlfriends father is one of those who feels that women are to be seen and not heard. It makes me crazy because she is by no means slow or stupid, she is actually really bright, allthough terribly uneducated thanks to him.

 

Is there such a creature as a "professional" steering wheel holder? ...wait...you're not saying....nah...nevermind.

What some of these six-month-experts don't seem to understand is there were professional, legal, safe, and very good drivers long before there were gadgets doing the work. Most of the people who "swear by" this gadget or that...regardless of what it might be...could not function as drivers without said gadgetry. They have been trained by companies like Prime (who couldn't pass CSA2010 by the way-which is why they are on e-logs in the first place) to rely heavily on technology. The human factor is removed. I'm not convinced this is a good idea. Machines only do what they are programmed to do. They do not assess, decide, execute. That takes human thought. My own assessment is if a company requires all this stuff on an owner or lease operator's truck, that company obviously has no confidence in its people. People that were trained by that company. Would that then point to a poor training program? Interesting question.

For those interested in knowing, Swift passed CSA2010...and not by a small margin, either. Must be doing something right.

 

Wasnt insulting anybody. I was making an obvious observation about drivers (anybody) who happens to use the crash preventer system, and its going off every other second, because a driver is too lazy to keep their concentration to keep their rig in their lane. Now, you even say 'i was lazy'....well thats not me calling you lazy, thats you just agreeing with me, i guess. I dunno...normally when i get 'lazy' i pull off at the nearest truck stop or rest area and take a break.

as far as needing gadgets to do their job, and not being able to do it 10-20 yrs ago.....I run a GPS in my truck. If you watch other trucks pass ya on the road, or in truck stops, i'd say 3 out of 5 (if not more) have some form of GPS system in their trucks. I use Microsoft Streets and Trips off my laptop, that sits on a laptop stand next to my passenger seat. I also run my log book off it....with a backup laptop that i keep 'just in case'. About 2 mo. ago, i was having my main laptop being fixed, and my backup went out. OH NO>......NO GPS......How did it bother me? Not much. of the next 3-4 loads 75% of em, i had alrady been to before. And as far as the other load, I wrote down the directions on my windshield corner, and i was just fine. I just like the GPS because, at night, i know my next turn is .5 mi away...and i dont have to slow down to 20 mph in a 55 to look for a tiny tiny green street sign. GPS' today...are like what cell phones were 10 years ago (not needing to stop at pay phones) and what the rand mcnally commercial atlas was 20-30 yrs ago. It is a tool. And smart drivers use all the tools they can to work smarter, not harder.

If you (you in general) are a driver who needs to work harder than necessary to make yourself feel better....so be it.

 

This is the BEST justification I have seen for using a GPS! Love it, because it is so true! Don't own one, but I'm not driving rig anymore so it doesn't really matter if I have one or not. I don't go very many new places anymore anyway.
