Like I said that "policy" of taking time off at a relatives house & not getting paid for it is BS!!! Your working for them, what you do with your down time or break down time is of no consequence to them...
I'd like to see this D/L policy... How can Stevens require that you get a TX license? You do not live there, That is not where you are registered to vote, not where your paycheck goes? (In my state I do not pay income tax. Tx does.. SO is Steven't going to pay to file a TX tax return)?
Well "T" I wouldn't get caught dead working for Steven's so getting my information second hand is ho I get it.. I've been driving since 1988 and have "been there, done that.. Got the T-shirt".. This buddy didn't listen to me and just had to find out for himself.. He is regretting it.. When his time is up he is out of there..
Steven't gets students suckered in by promising them the world then tries to manipulate them into "leasing" a truck even before they have 1 year experiance!! (Holly Crap batman!! Are they nuts? A person with less than 1 year has NO idea of how to drive never mind run a business). They call, & call trying to get you to "come on over to the O/O / contractor side... you'll make sooooo much more $$$... Just sign here and "poof" your a "contractor" with no insurance, no vacation, no nothing.. All for .09 cents more a mi...
Any O/O will tell you the trick to sucess is not to run harder, it's to run smarter! Steven's has it back asswards.. You have to run yourself silly, hardly ever take time off or you might get behind in your payments... Oh, and dictate everything you do.. keep your truck governed at company standard, should I continue?
I know about pulling a reefer, I pulled one for over 6 years so there is little to nothing you can tell me about running one of those I don't already know. I then wised up and then pulled dry van, flatbed, stepdeck, & now I pull high, wide, and heavy with my 35 ton, 3 axle RGN / double drop.. I am now a O/O (Yes, I own my whole rig, truck and trailer). I try and give some insite to consider and it never fails someones feeling gets hurt because they think that their company can do no wrong & they are the best thing since sliced bread.. Open your eyes people, do your homework, take everything you read with a grain of salt, but realize I'm not doing this because I love it, I try and write in these forums to prevent someone from making some of the mistakes I've made and to make you think of things BEFORE taking the plunge..
Bottom line, You CAN do a whole lot better than Steven's.. yes there are worse but they are lumped in there with the other mega carriers that train students.. (Off hand I know FFE is worse than Steven's, I leased on to them and only lasted 6 months... I saw first hand how their op is run and how their students were taught.)
I'll save this for another day.

So here is my bottom line: I have driven longer than Gonzo, have more miles as an O/O (probably)than he does. I am now driving for Stevens as a contractor driver. I know the numbers on both sides of the isle and I think I'm better off this way, considering the economy, my personal needs and what I want.
Doesn't make someone like Gonzo wrong to want to drive equity. It simply means there are different strokes for different folks and ranting about how your system is the only way to go, only proves your ignorance.
I'll agree with him in one area: Read the numbers carefully, ask questions until you are totally satisfied and decide what's best for your needs and wants.CivilWerks, clbell66, TLeaHeart and 1 other person Thank this. -
I will agree that people need to learn to read and to understand, and to do their own research before signing any agreement. Even the agreement for training. Do NOT take what the recruiters tell you at face value, but investigate, ask lots and lots of question and be sure that you truly understand what you are being told.
So many people have rose colored glasses on when they make decisions. Then they blame the company, other people for their poor decision. Then they want the government to save them from their own poor decision. Personal responsibility has all but disappeared with the younger generations.Emulsified and twinrose Thank this. -

Well for everyone's information I did work there back in the 90's...
Yes I have a hardon for them.. they suck... I try and tell everyone I know not to go there.. What's wrong with that. Because your happy as a pig in *hit don't make it all peaches and cream over there...
If your as experianced as you sound Emu.. you'd have gone somewhere better too.. If you've been in the business 22 years and you cannot retire yet you've screwed up along the way to. I got my license in 1988 and maybe I don't have as much driving but, hey I'm proud of that.. I am also proud to be selling my company and getting out of the business too..
Companies like Steven't have screwed up the trucking industry more than helped it.. My buddy has nothing to do with it, hell, we arn't realy that close just aquaintainces realy. Just because somthing is written in some handbook does not make it law.. I'd like to get my hands on this handbook and see what LAWS are being screwed with.
If they're such a great company then why is there so much NEG stuff about them!! I'm doing my part to steer anyone I can away from them like I will do for CRST/ Malone, FFE, & anyone else I care to bash.. (Yes, I've drove for these jokers too). -
I did retire. Sold out and took a little bit over two years off, then got itchy and am back out.
I like driving. Just gets in your blood I guess.
I've met your type too many times on the road. Guess that's why I look forward to CSA2010...it will help rid and improve the industry from "super" truckers.
enough said. -

I thought this thread was about "Steven's... Not so great.." Not "I love being told what to do and where to go because I don't have a brain.." So why should anyone expect anything but bad things here.. Go tell your "success" story" at the coffee table in the truck stop and don't forget to lie about how much $$ you make while your at it..
Try looking at these reports about the so called "great company your so willing to fight for..

Heck just Google Steven's and see for yourself...
I can't find 1 good thing posted about them .. Watch this guy try to hook up to his trailer... (& he has a license???)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1VXAuO9QX4&feature=related
Need I dig more for more dirt on Stevens??? I can find plenty.. If anyone is thinking of going there I suggest the same, look at some posts to see what your getting into..
I am not some "Billy big rigger" that talks ####.. Just look for yourself and make your own judjement... -
So what's your point? Stevens is a training company. Every training company will have complaints about them. It's the nature of the beast.
As for the backing video...so YOU never had a bad day backing up? Never had to do multiple pull ups? Every day is just a breeze to you....Mr. Super Trucker!
Yea..I've met your type...plenty of times.
Born in the drivers seat. Never makes a mistake...Drives better than anyone else...just ask them...no! just wait! They'll volunteer that information to you!
Supertruckers are the ones that come 10 feet off my bumper at 65mph to try and intimidate me into moving right so they can do 75 in that 65 zone. never mind I'm just trying to put some reasonable distance between my bumper and the guy on my right I just passed.
Because when you've got your bumper 10 feet beyond my front end, you'll pull over just to prove your'e the better man.
yea...I've met your type.
Super truckers are the ones on the CB in the TS berating the poor guy that's taking too long to put it in the hole. Better make sure EVERYONE hears you too! Turn that echo up on your CB with your 100w linear. Blast everyone.
Then laugh with all your other supertrucker buddies nice and loud in the restaurant and belittle the newbie out there. Make sure we hear you!
Funny thing...
When the coop is open, I don't see England, Stevens, Swift, Schneider or other comapny drivers on the shoulder figuring out their cheat sheets.
It's the O/O super trucker.
Go ahead and rant and rave all you want. Make fun of the new guys, the company drivers or anyone else. Prove you have more testosterone than we do.
As for me? Give me a safe and courteous driver every time. Heck...I'll even wait patiently for that driver that takes 6 shots to get his truck in the hole.
You see... we company drivers, lease drivers, contractors....aren't perfect. We remember when we were two weeks out in the world and stuggling.
We remember the guys that encouraged us and we remember the super truckers.
Now go spout some more vitreous anger against everyone else.
Fortunately, CSA 2010 will take care of people like you.twinrose, CivilWerks, 0260 and 2 others Thank this. -
Gonzo, you have a miserable life. From your stories, and lies, you worked for stevens 10 or so years ago...yet you spend your energy berating how bad they are.
You are a pathetic excuse for a truck driver. You claim you are doing this to help, then tell the truth, about why you dislike Stevens, and still spend your energy in being so negative about them.
If you are so good, why don't you have a fleet of your own trucks, teaching students your way of driving?
Your are not only posting in this thread, but other threads, and you can not even keep your stories straight across threads.
I do not lie about what I make. I give an honest account of my trials good and bad with stevens in another thread. I have had bad months, I have had good months.
rambos like you will soon be gone.
