BUBBA YOU ARE CORRECT 15 mph or over is a serious ticket for a commercial driver and the grapevine does state truck lane 35mph and it begins way b4 the downgrade. I feel your pain but all states are issuing tickets to anyone at anytime for anything they want to. Like Clinton said ITS THE ECONOMY STUPID. Good Luck.
A question for those of you familiar with Grapevine

In the morning will load lumber (fence slats) and head south over I-5...will be plenty slow climbing with 79,650 gross...and down to the bug station will not come out of 7th...don't like seeing smoke coming from under or around the rear of the trailer...just makes for a bad day for sure.

If you fly down the grade fast enough...DOT can't catch you right?otherhalftw Thanks this. -
Well just to update this thread in hopes it may help someone else out someday... The judge finally made a ruling after nearly 4 months from the date of receiving my citation.
The ticket was reduced from 50mph in a 35mph zone (15 over) to "excessive downhill speed". 15 over would have been AT LEAST $415, 4 points and a big giant black mark on my record. The ticket for excessive down hill speed is a $200 ticket with 2 points assigned to my record. California actually has to refund me ~$200 from the original $415 I payed. All said and done I'm out $200 for the ticket and $400 for the lawyer fees. I'm very satisfied and glad I fought it, though I WILL NEVER SPEED AGAIN... ANYWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!
I had a few things going for me (according to my lawyer) that lead to the ticket being reduced... 1) I have a clean MVR 2) Traffic was light that day 3) Weather conditions were not a factor 4) The officer did in fact guess at my speed which they in fact are trained to do.
So the morale of the story is: don't be a big giant dumb ### idiot like me and speed... law of averages says you will eventually get caught. The aggravation and sleepless nights were FAR worse than the money I'm out. It's just not worth the heart ache. Oh, and ALWAYS fight ANY ticket you get.Last edited: Sep 5, 2010

I know I'm way late for the party but just to add, I have seen this sign:
I believe it's on I84 WB before Pendleton as someone else said. Though I'm not sure it's a "speed limit" sign as much as a "suggested speed" sign. Since it's yellow I believe that means it's only a warning - not white. -

Keep thinking that the next time you cruise over that pass loaded to 80,000. Its unlikely you'll make it to the bottom in one piece. -
That same sign is on I-5 N/B in S. Or.
