Someone who hates the industry this much should really consider another line of work.......oh wait......you say you did. Now you are "happy"? So why hand around here and complain? If I was this unhappy with anything I would move on! Hint..hint.
Swift...... I enjoy my job

Who died and put you in charge?
If you don't like my opinions, don't respond to them. -
This is an opinion based forum. Why do you attack other posters who you don't agree with?
Turn off the bold lettering. It's like a little child screaming to get their point across. -
Most of us on here have worked in this industry, and know the real numbers.Last edited: Sep 6, 2010

I am a mentor yes but not all of those miles are from my students. I do not mean any harshness by saying those miles are lazy but I am saying that as a solo driver i could average 4000 per week. I run 3 weeks out then home for my home time. I also roll my time off and do not take a 34 every week. I also teach my students both ways. I am saying my Miles are there because my dm and planners know i run hard and I have only had one break down. Yes this sux but it happens. may i suggest you get you're dm on the qc and tell them you are not making enough money to survive. I did and the miles just came on. Sometimes i have to say NO but i do not sit for anybody. This is mearly a suggestion and the miles are there so you have to tell you're self " Keep the drivers door closed and you will make the money" this is compleatly up to you. oh by the way I have made over $36,000 so far this year and that was without students on my truck untill july of this year. Now with students on my truck i have made closer to $42,000.So out of those 95000 miles I have run over 70,000 on my own. Yes Swift pays very little in the beguinning but pay increases do come. Oh ya I was involved with Swift with the bad Economy and I had to take the .01 decrease but at least i stayed running so i could provide for my family. I mean that is why we are considered as the Provider right? Utilize the resourses provided to you sir. They are there it is up to you to utilize them.

Wait a moment. I have difficulty in believing a solo driver at Swift can pull 4000 miles a week. And I'm very happy at Swift.
It simply comes down to time, miles and trucks being set at 62 mph.
70 hrs in an 8 day period even if you used all 70 in one week that's going to be only 70 x 62 = 4340 and that's if you use no time for pretrips, hooks, fueling etc. And if you're doing that.....you're not logging legal.
Now if you're pulling that and logging legal I say good for you! But I know I couldn't do it and I sure don't consider myself lazy nor does my DM or fleet manager. -
You should be able to take the mentor class at the atl terminal. They do want you to work for them 1 year before taking the class. as for the miles that does very. depending on the student, and how you trust them, and of course the dm. so i would not be able to be honest and tell you how many miles you could look forward to. Sorry

Not telling you what to do. But i do not waste a lot of time when i do my job and it IS ALL LEGAL. I have never been on the rug for a illegal log. I try to know the people i deal with on a continual baisis...this helps and fueling should not take over actually 8 mins. I do sometimes take 30 at a t/s or a 10hr but look at the math....now we know swift does not pay practical miles some pay more miles than actually run...but most pay less....right? so get up do the pretrip drive what is necessary fuel if needed....get er done...but most of all be safe...I did do 7000 last week with the student on my truck thats 3500 each but very limited stops in between and if you still doubt that i will be happy to show you the pay stub as well as my logs and show you there is a pretrip involved as well just let me know which terminal to meet you at. there are some weeks that i DO NOT get that but i also very rarely decline a trip. This does really help. By the way you should average 2500 on the low end and 3500 on the high end...and nobody said you was lazy. plz read the statement and i am not saying you in particular. maybe this person was not taught to roll his hrs off like a lot have not been. I am saying the miles are there go get them at least as much as you can. I just used mine as a example. So Please Mam do not accuse me of running Illegal again.
J-money Thanks this.
