Poobah, I stand corrected. I had read 4 pages or so before I replied, and didn't go back to get your exact quote..sorry for misquoting you. I appreciate the "silver tongued devil compliment! I don't think of myself that way...but I'll take a compliment any way I can get it
Also, thanks for the well wishes, it does get EXTREMELY dark along a part of I10, between Coachella and Desert Center, where we switch. Also, that 26 mile hill is very dark as well, and there is at least 1 broke down rig I've seen every nite...since we're doing mostly furniture, I have a fully loaded trailer of La-Z-Boy and haven't had a trailer over 9k, so I fairly fly up the hill and don't want to get too close to something I don't want to "contact".

Poobah said: ↑Just to clarify, I didn't say they "won't replace them," but rather that they were "not likely" to (pg.33, same thread). After speaking with several W/S Volvo drivers about the problem, I only found one who was able to get the shop to replace his lense covers. And yes, he stressed the safety factor as well, especially being able to avoid hitting wildlife at night on dark highways like MT 200 between Missoula and Great Falls. However, all of the drivers said they met some resistance at having them replaced.
When I approached Mike in Missoula about the issue, he suggested that they try polishing them first. I had that done later in Helena where they did an excellent job and I was satisfied and happy with the results. You and Cage must be a couple of 'silver-tongued devils' to rate new lenses for both of you!!
Hope all goes well with the SFS to Phx gig. You'll both need good headlights out there on that strecth of I-10 at night. I'd rather drive from SLC to Wendover, given a choice.Click to expand...
I know a few other drivers who went to safety and got new lense assemblies also. It is a safety issue and safety will go to bat for you as well.
No 'silver-tongued devils' devil here just explained what I had been through and that I wanted to ask the shop manager before calling safety. -
Hey yo! How you doing? (big Rocky fan)
Quick question. I am interested in getting more info on W/S. I live in Pennsylvania and wondering about the freight over here. I know about the furniture( not afraid to work hard)but was wondering if someone could give me some details. If I live here will I go west also. The more info the better.
Thanks

He has seen Texas stadium, been over the George Washington Bridge, figured out what a lot lizard is and has eaten things you couldnt pay me to put in my mouth. He loves his FM, thinks free showers at the Pilot ROCK and gets home whenever he has asked to. In his words, the coolest job Ive ever had! To this day Ive never told him I discovered he is working for a bottom feeder and that after a year or so he can go elsewhere if he wants. I just wait for his call and listen to the adventure of the day.
So short story made long ..LOL .the moral here is that before you worry about what company you are going to go with you better figure out who you are. Are you me? Or are you him? Because the truth is this job is not for everybody. If youre a ME the company probably wont matter because you will want to kill them all. LOL!
And If youre him. Get out there and enjoy the ride!

For any who may wonder, this was not originally written about W/S. The fact is driving a truck presents a unique set of challenges regardless of whose name is on the door. I think what makes this thread so engaging to follow is watching, and cheering for someone like Chris who has an indomitable spirit and positive attitude, a 'git er done approach to life that all drivers have to have to remain drivers.
My first delivery with W/S was 1400 mi in a five day window. Four breakdowns, three tows and a borrowed day-cab later, I finally delivered within an hour of the appointment. To paraphrase Forrest Gump: Trucking Happens!!
And to borrow a phrase from The Grateful Dead, KEEP ON TRUCKING, brother...(and keep us posted on your adventures).Click to expand...
Darn good stuff!!Poobah Thanks this. -
Just finished the 10 day program. Taking time off to be with the family before my first run. They said I might get a truck in Las Vegas or Santa Fe Springs. I'll have to call tomorrow and find out.
See you on the road! -
COOL! If your truck is in SFS, maybe I'll get to meet ya in person. I'm there daily as I do a regional/local/dedicated type of run that gets me home daily, so I'm in and out a couple times a day...
I'll PM you my truck number and if you ever get there, feel free to look me up! -

Hey Chris,
Congrats on getting your truck up and running. I'm glad you're on the move and getting some $$$, you deserve it. I'm sure Watkins & Shepherd is happy to get an excellent driver!
Hopefully I'll be in a position to give you a ring tomorrow, I want to hear from you. -
