Mr. Dick Jones and anyone else not paying attention. I said my GROSS company pay was roughly $900/wk. That's before taxes and my share of the insurance premium. After all this, cash in my pocket was between $600 and $700.
I broke down where my money goes as o/o. After taxes, putting money aside in my own account and insurance premium, cash in my pocket is roughly $850. I don't have to put money aside if I don't want to. Swift does not confiscate money from me like CR England does their l/o's. I could put that 300 in my pocket, making my net weekly pay $1,150. But I choose of my own volition to set it aside.
You do not know the terms of my purchase contract or even from whom I purchased my truck. So you have nowhere to go with that statement. Are you buying a house? A car? If so, the deed or title has the bank's name on it. Yet you still say it's "yours." How I financed MY truck has no bearing on the discussion at hand.
My business model may not work for you nor for other people here. That does not make it wrong. For now, I am in the process of building business capital. Something company guys have no need to do. Yes, there are more headaches being o/o. But I don't have to deal with forced dispatch or company mandated fuel routes. I can go where I want to, whichever way I want to get there. There are other advantages, but like I said, it's not for everybody.
You want to be a company driver? Great. They are needed every bit as much as I am. I won't put you down for it. Similarly, I expect you to not look down your nose at what I'm doing becausse you can't figure out how a solo o/o can make it work. You've seen my hard numbers. You can't dispute solid math. Don't take it so hard and attack me personally.
Swift...... I enjoy my job

I was sitting in SE missouri about to deliver a load of pallets. Sitting behind me, was a L/O in a new silver international. Started talking to him about if he was solo, or team., and how many miles he gets a week. he said he was solo, got 3600/wk and said that 8-week deferrment was a good deal, and that he'd "jump on it" if he were me.
I sent in his truck number to my DM and asked if his numbers were accurate. He told me they weren't. that in 21 days of running, he had 6900 miles.
this morning, i was sitting in gary. Some jack off decided to drop his trailer right in front of me (still hooked to mine). Behind me on the opposite side of the isle, were two trls that were double parked, so i could not cut the trailer enough to clear it. I was STUCK. I messaged memphis asking 'who dropped this trailer. they are blocking me in'. few minutes later they said they sent a message to the truck and gave me the truck number. Now. how is that any different than confirming how many miles a driver says he/she is getting?? (i promptly found the truck....figures it'd be a L/O truck...and told him where he droped the trailer was blocking me in. He comes over, hooks to it, then tells me in his broken english "oh dis wasnt me, my trailer i dropped over there....." yeah right.) -
what i find funny, are those in truck stops advertising for stun guns in truck stops. i always get on saying, i'll dare anybody to a dual. i'll use my real gun...you use a stun gun. we'll march off 10 paces, turn and fire....any takers? obviously nobody answers. =) -
i know that i can walk up to any L/O that got their truck thru swift, and i will NEVER see their name on the title. at least if you buy a house or car, your name is on the title somewhere, and the banks is on there as a lein holder. Others on this thread are in agreement with me.....you cannot make it work as a L/O at swift...AND expect to own the truck after your lease is up. $50k balloon at the end of the lease? LOL....that is put there to ensure they get the truck back. why lease a truck when it will NEVER be yours? you're paying 100% interest.
as far as your numbers.900 before taxes and you say after taxes you take home 700-800? come on....everybody (middle class) pays in 30% of your incomes. you say you make 900 gross....you're not getting more than 700 back. and in the miles you say you run, i make 700 as a co. driver too.....without the headache, worry or stress.
i'm not saying 'you're dumb for leasing a truck thru IEL/Swift'. I'm simply saying the numbers i've traked in the past, shows ME that the lease just wont put the big bucks into my pocket. and if i cannot make $200+ more a week as a L/O or O/O...then why would i want to take on the added risk? this isnt the stock market....this is real life.
and i'm just comparing the numbers you gave us all....i'm not making this up. did you not say 'you make $700-800' as a company driver...and THEN just told us you make $850 as a lease operator? again....your numbers....not mine. -

If you didn't care you wouldn't have bother looking it up or trying to make a issue out of it. If you can't discredit the facts discredit the person?
I did not call anybody anything let alone a liar. Please read all of my posts again. And please don't make false accusations.
If peoples own figures do not add up and down right contradict each each other that is what I have pointed out. I did not call anybody anything. If anybody feels insulted or guilted it is there own doing.
I think the problem is people get an exceptional week here and there at Swift and make huge errors in rounding up. Pride and a sence of accomplishment and hard work make them extrapolate that inflated number to a weekly average.
It just is not so. The terminal averages and individual stats by driver number have been posted at one time or another in almost all terminals.
So please look before you call me a liar or something else. -
exactly. I've had weeks where i've ran 3300-3500 mi. but i can count them on one hand. I'm not going to follow Mr. Rodgers into his little town of "make believe" and say "oh yeah,...i get 3000-4000 average a week" when in reality i should have said, i've had 3400 mi weeks, but normally they are 2500. When said driver could have just as easily said "i average 2500-2800" and been more honest with himself.
it is a sad sad thing, when ego and pride push 'common courtsey' and 'being polite', clear off the back burner into the dish water next to the stove. -
I got one better: I've reported myself! No, it's true. I've done it several times, I send Mastertech a message with a link to the post. Am I a girl scout or not? LOL
Mastertech Thanks this. -
You enjoy living in that glass house? You've set yourself up as the authority on Swift, Swift drivers and the miles they get; yet you don't wish to be held accountable for your words? Ahhhh I'm done even talking to you. In my opinion you're a troll.
