When CARB laws fully kick in, in 2014, older trucks will not be able to license in CA. I have heard, but don't know for a fact that they will not be allowed to run in CA as well. Same goes for older Refer trailers.
Gen 1 & Gen 2 engines will be the target to phase out, so anything older than 2006.
Last year I had a 1996 truck that CA refused to re license. I had used it for occaisional loads when needed so it wasn't a big loss. I sold it into AZ.
CA wants to phase all older engines out. When CARB is fully functional in 2022, all engines, including the ones being built today, will be phased out. The standards they have written are yet to be achieved by the manufactuers.
But since CA has so much business and demand, they can get away with it.
We'll see what happens. Personally, I think they will eventually rescind parts of, if not all of the CARB rules.

This November we're going to vote on it,... to a degree anyway. Ballot proposition 23, if passed, will postpone most of the new CARB regulations that were passed as a part of AB32 until California has an unemployment rate of 5.5% or lower for 4 consecutive quarters.

    ...... wish us luck.

.......... BTW - the sales tax is the same for new or used. Registration costs are different and depend on the model year and GVWR of the truck but, sales tax is the same 8.75% or more depending on where you purchase.

I dont think that they can sustain it, I think they are going to cause so many problems that the industry they have left is going to pack it up and pull it out.

Also part of why I think that is they are building new ports here in Texas, I know across the bridge the LaQuinta Container Terminal is big news, and when it is up and running it will handle about 1 million TEU's annualy.

That is a lot of freight that is going to be coming right out of my back yard instead of california.

This is for REDD what I seen was in the truckpaper from the west coast and it said that anyone with 1 to 5 trucks can run in cali till 2014 then they have to be up to 2007 standards 5 and more trucks it will be jan 1 2011 at 2007 standrards now my glasses might be scratched some and I miss read this but I will get the paper from the driver that has it and reread it to be sure ....But I wish you the best with hauling other trailers in and out of the ports

Or planning on moving out of Commie-fornia like me. I don't have a house now - it's cheaper for me to get out of the hell hole than to extend truck payments by 3 years. Shame it is a beautiful place. Politicians and lazy entitlement people ruined it.

I don't necessarily disagree with your theory, though.

I don't like the ports anyway...So, I just won't be hauling in or out of them.

Did you miss the part where I said that I'm leased to a carrier? A carrier that has 2000 trucks on their roster? We won't be affected.
