Fat people are discriminated against continually and we have no recourse or protection from idiots who spout this same type of crap that has been posted here. If I'm forced out of my job by some new regulation that says because of my weight I'm not healthy enough to do my job then you better believe I'll be fileing suit to be labeled disabled. I've been a safe driver for almost 20yrs now and my weight has been well above "normal" since I was 10 years old. These legally protected groups you spoke of didn't get that way until someone stood up and fought for their equality and fat folks deserve the same equal treatment as anyone else. You don't know anything about me or my eating habits or what do as exercise so who are you to judge me or people like me. For all you socalled American truckdrivers that are so willing to see a whole group of safe productive drivers put out of work, you should remember that all these nasty fat people are your brothers and sisters, aunts, uncles, mothers, fathers, and even your own children and we have a right to work and live just like you do. This isn't about primes hiring requirements it's about government regulations that will put qualified drivers out of work. It's about insurance companies covering their ###es by putting mine out in the street. Who's gonna be next?drivers over 60yrs old, smokers, maybe they should set an IQ requirement then we would all be in trouble. Open your eyes and see we are your friends family and neighbors and all we want is to be treated fairly and left alone to do our jobs so we can feed our families like everyone else.

    That's amusing...considering Swift's o/o's are set for 68mph.

When I was still with Prime with my 70mph truck battling the E-log, the loads were still being scheduled for 70mph. Apparently, Sales hadn't gotten the memo about the fleetwide slowdown. Most of the time, shippers would send me out with barely enough time to get to the receiver for on time delivery within the time available on my logs. I ran hard but still averaged 6.5mpg.

Unfortunately, I was sent on loads from Excel or IBP where I had to wait sometimes two days for the trailer to be loaded. The rate looked really great until my wasted time was factored in. So far with Swift, the vast majority of loads have been drop/hook on both ends. With Prime, I was paying lumpers at least once each week. Here, I have paid for two lumpers in two months. My wait time for loading/unloading is hugely reduced, my freight is lighter, I don't have nearly the deadhead percentage as with Prime and there is usually a terminal within a day's drive of where I'm at. My deadhead percentage with Prime was about 12%. With Swift, it's barely over 5%. In addition, I get paid for deadhead. Prime didn't do that.

I understand we all feel like we should stick up for our own team. If Prime works for you, I'm happy. My experiences with Rob Lowe were always positive. In my opinion, he's a fairly nice guy. Most of the staff are easy to deal with. But I was losing money each week I worked there.

And none of this has anything at all yo do with BMI. Cool, huh?

The real problem is that the BMI was written for people in the mid 1800's where size, and weight were far diffrent the 'normal' size for someone was around 5'6-5'8 for males. And wieght, due to diet (Not talking mcburgers or anything just general nutrition) was way off too.

The company guys are a bit slower - just pulling your leg!

Even with the test program, it did take a bit to get everyone on the same page. Stroll over to the Marten threads... they just threw everyone on it without any preparation. There's some real pain going on over there! OTOH, what we found out in the test deal is that there would be a lot more repowers to make it work - but it does take the cooperation of the drivers to ask for help when necessary. 6.5 mpg?? That's really piss poor mileage on my truck.

'07, '08 I didn't get any of those long waits at the packing plants. That was an '09 thing - probably just an artifact of less freight from the downturn. So far this year, any time I've gone out there the loads have been ready well before my arrival. Yeah, I didn't appreciate that either.

Well... you're running a different kind of freight... can't fit too much ice cream into those dry vans!

Personally, the further I stay away from a "terminal" the more freight I'm pulling. Getting paid for deadhead depends - short ones no. They just gave me 85-cpm for the deadhead I ran out to St. Joseph.

Depends on how you work it out... a lot depends on your FM. There's the average FM, and then there's "Power FMs."

So... are you getting paid percentage or by the mile with Swift?

I hate to say the majority of ones that pass the BMI will fail it within five years of trucking.
I've had sleep apnea for over 25 years. Not once have I fell asleep at the wheel or had an accident. Excuse me while I take a nap! zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

    Somebody call the Whaaa-mbulace!

Ok, would you be happy if they designed and implemented a "lifestyle test" for you? That should be pretty expensive... But the they will know exactly why you can't lose weight....and why your BMI is as high as it is

Tell me why your insurance premiums shouldn't be higher than a thin person, when being overweight has been directly linked to higher risks of health problems.

I'm fat, and I laugh at the thought of a lawsuit. Only one state in the US has any sort of weight discrimination statute. Plus, there hasn't been a single successful case in court where the plaintiff claimed their obesity is covered under the Americans with Disability Act (ADA)

Denial isn't just a river in Egypt.
