I did, but I am not one of the preferred drivers for repowers. In fact I hate them. It shows a lack of planning and forward thought. So at times when I am running ahead I get to set, or reschedule myself. I did not feel like trying to reschedule 4 drops. Made all 4 drops on time, just finishing up now at Tom Thumb (safeway).

7 loads a day out of that hell hole. Yeppers we are the only one there. The left onto astoria back to 278 is easy, it is the left from astoria to 49th that can be a real problem, especially if you have cars parked on both side. Gotta love taking your break, bobtail, on a city street. There is a deli about 2 blocks away on 49th, across 278 that was good food.

Have fun getting unloaded in Colonial Heights. Stevens still scheduling daytime unloading appointments?

You can go home after the first five weeks out but it will only drag out your training and of course you will be getting trainee pay for a lot longer. If you do the 9/10 weeks straight you can go home for 7 days BUT that is if you can afford it. I am going to do the training straight, get my truck and stay out another three weeks and then go home. That would get me home more or less around Christmas and I will have a few bucks in my pocket.

Best not to think too much about home once you get out here.

My trainer's idea of a good meal is a cup of coffee and a bag of twizzlers. We had a delivery snafu so we are shut down in Pearl, MS. No way was I going to eat another Subway or Bratz of undermined age. I hiked down the road and found a buffett restaurant and gorged.

I will make note of the eatery. Next time, in a similar situation (when I am driving my own truck) I go out there and enjoy.

Good move, get some me time, some good food too. I still do that, park at a Truck Stop, and go for a walk, find some good places to eat that way. I bet your trainer is eating in the bunk while you drive, one of my trainers did that, at right out of the can, did not heat anything up.

Did another shuttle run from Mesquite TX to fort Smith AR...had a preplan last night to pick up tyson in the middle of Nowhere AR. Got Empty, sent a different preplan, then nothing....and nothing....and nothing...no load assignment, no preplan....no info...Now the second preplan was Rogers AR, already late on the pick up, and even a team would have troubles making the delivery. Really did not want that one anyway. I have to wonder what changed in Dallas...Seems we are back to screwed up operations again.

Even the trainer w/student that did the same run, was on his 3rd preplan before they sent him his load assignment, that does not deliver until Sunday in the Bronx. Good load for me, not for a team.

Oh well, here I set, like a mushroom.

Thanks Emulsified for the reply. I live in Clayton, NC, near Raleigh. I have only been here for about a year. Originally from New York City. I am looking to learning as much as I can at Stevens and paying my dues for sure. Any advice for CDL training and O1, O2 training at Stevens? I am all ears :)

This man does not eat hence no concern for groceries. When and if he eats it will be once a day and usually some crap from the truck stop. Unfortuantely I am forced to eat the same crap since as you know truck stop menus are very limited. Not much I can do except forage around the truck stops when time allows.

As I type he is watching Martha Steward whip up a Meat, Pear and Goat Cheeze salad.....sounds yummy.

The best advice I can give anyone starting out in training is to recognize who the complainers are and stay away from them!
You will need to work hard, apply yourself, have great patience (especially when you're out with your trainers) and just plain gut it out on some days.
You don't need some jerk telling you whats wrong with Stevens, trucking, the phase of the moon or anything else. Try and hang around positive minded people. It makes a huge difference.

The first load I delt with once aboard was a time sensitive meat load that we got late so we dang near drove as a team on my first couple of days. Very manly blood and guts truck driving. I stepped up but problem is we are not a team, me being an 01 trainee. No biggie on my end.

Anyway, we bust ### and get the job done. This, the next assignment is a Tropicana load that was already days late getting picked up. It is a six stopper. Getting to the first drop was mission impossible. All stops get rescheduled. First stop we run for half a day, camp out and deliver in the morning. Next day, same thing....run for half a day, camp out and deliver in the morning. Going to do the same thing tomorrow.

We have just been a day late and dollar short of getting on top of this thing. It was possible to make the first two deliveries on the same day during normal business hours. We could easily make the three Texas deliveries on the same day but for one reason or another that aint going to happen either. Hurry up and wait.
