I can tell you this... if you run a gasoline powered generator in the truckstop next to me, I will smash it with a hammer. Dying from CO poisoning is not high on my list of things I'd like to do.

I have seen small window units (5000btu) run off an inverter and a few deep cycle batteries. You'd probably have to experiment a little to see how many batteries would last for how long.

I am NOT joking at all. Gasoline powered generators put out a hell of a lot of carbon monoxide. If the air is still at night in the truckstop, it hangs around... carbon monoxide = death.

    Get my point?

I know you don't wanna die but I think going to jail for smashing someone's property is probably not high on your list either.:biggrin_25513:

i have seen diesel apu.s that could choke you right out---i really think the exhaust should be routed up into truck stacks--get it up in the breeze a bit so it blows away

    lilillill Thanks this.

You might also want a VERY good chain+cable for that thing...they are worth $$$$.
Lots of RV folks use them with the rooftop units...usually the 3000...the 2000 is the inverter gen right?! I think it has a much higher surge rating than most standard gennys...but just look it up...and maybe test it.
I bet if you went to RV.NET, that all the info on amps need to run several different gennys is there....I know that you can have a "soft start" capicitor installed in the rooftop style units ot the home central units to reduce the surge watts needed...so it might be possible to do the same mod on a window unit to reduce the surge watts needed to start the AC (a compressor and most electric motors may need 3x the runnaing power to start!!).
I am assuming you are only gonna run it is safe places...but Like I said...chain+cable it down. A locking gas cap (to prevent folks from messing with it....boy..if folks don't like it running near them...they could f it up), but they are quiet..but get a CO detector...if it was mounted on the frame...be sure to mount a big fan to keep the air flowing...for both cooling and the CO....But I think 3000 watts might be what you need..Yahmaha makes some for the same price about as Honda..still inverter...slightly more noise. Still..very good reputation though....

I've heard too that Honda 2000 won't take an AC. But the Honda 3000 will take it 100%. I'm flirting with the ideea too and I'm trying to bring all the info together to see if is worth it. I'm also curious if a 3000 Honda will be able to charge my batteries while I'm stuck somewhere for few days.
If everything comes up the way I want I will buy a Honda 3000 even with the risk of some brave heart to smash it with a hammer.
