I agree, you daycab guys do more driving the truck than we OTR guys. There is little skill in holding the steering wheel on the interstate with the cruise set at 62mph. Before everyone jumps all over me I do drive OTR but this dumb insult on 'day cab' drivers is mind numbing.

Well it's official. They are a bottom feeder now. As a student you can now work for Hirschbach at a whole 0.12/mile for 90 days training. Trainers get 0.24/ mile on all miles.

When you run all the good drivers off, you have to hire from somewhere else.

$.12 and $.24 a whole mile? PLEASE pick my sorry old arse up off the floof brfore I laugh it off! I'VE never seen $.12 in my entire driving career which started in 1975! Do these morons actually think that freight rates were EVER that depressed or that their drivers fall for this stuff? Well the drivers must as they keep hiring them for that embarrasing pay! I wouldn't even pee on their trucks for that money...oh wait yes I would!

So you drivers that are stupid enough to go drive for this BFI and yes they have won my Rollover's BFI Award for the month! Here I'll post this little US GOOBERMENT web site that tracks produce miledge rates and tell me that this twelve and twentyfour cent a mile rates are fair! This is an easy site to look at! And be disgusted that these BFI's actually sleep at night screwing their drivers the way they do! Now this IS a produce tracking site but there isn't that big of a difference between produce, meat or dry van rates!

Have fun and decide while you're at it if doing a L/P for less than $2.25 a mile but will for a whopping $.98 or less before FSC is a great idea also!

New ad for them: Do you speak russian? Polish? Are you from Eastern Europe? Do you want to make .12 to .24 cents a mile? If so we are the company for you!!! Do you want to make money? Do you want to go home? Do you want your dispatcher to talk every day with you? If so, then don't apply here...

    Seriously, .12 a mile????? WTF???

I run meat loads, and yes it can be stressful running, waiting on load to get done and sitting at the other end for a while. Would i trade anything for it? Heck no.

I would say day cabbers got it hard, and most of the ones i have talked to are not steering wheel holders.

Sounds like a company on the verge of going under to me.
Late pay, stooping to hire trainee's from schools for .12 cpm while they train for what? 2 months?
Then the trainers get .24 cpm for all miles, so the only way they can make money is to run the student as a second log book.
Yup, looks like they will not last long. That is worse than england lol.

This year they have shut down two terminals, laid off the best dispatchers and hired a bunch of inexperienced office people. They are adding and deleting lanes. They are adding more short stuff but gained a few CA runs. They cut our trucks back and make us dodge toll roads. The freight has to get there quick but now you have to get less than less sleep to get the job done. The offices are crammed. The safety guy is in a office the size of a small walkin closet. I laughed at him and said "I see you got the biggest office". He fell over laughing. Their last action to gain trucks was to buy a bunch of used Ryder junk. Lease this wonderful truck and it'll be yours. You just have to figure out how to pay the weekly payments when you only get two checks a month. Drivers quit left and right.
Another new thing is they want us to take any trailer that is overdue for a service into a speedco. Yeah right.
I enjoyed them when I first started. I lost my great dispatcher and it's been headaches every since. Like this morning I woke up and checked my paycheck. I made a whopping $2 take home. Wooohooo! I'll make them 2 for $2 Pilot hot dogs last.

Their fairly new management additions has new ideas and is destroying the old Hirschbach. Keep profits up and screw the drivers is the new way. I see them trying to mimmick the larger BFI's. You move from 2 years experience to hiring students and screwing them too is not a good sign. Most the meat freight pays $3.30/mile. They are making the money. they just want more.

I just can't wait until I get home next week. :)

I did a little homework. I didn't know he owned Burlington Motor Carriers. They filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

    http://www.landlinemag.com/todays_news/Daily/2001/Jul01/071601/071701-01.html

Most of the problems started when he hired AJ Tucker as VP (Tucker Transport) and took him in under a five year contract. He's the one turning the company upside down.

I bet Mr. Hirschbach wished he never sold out to these yoyo's.

I have worked for Hirschbach for several years now. I was hired in through VanPak then last year Hirschbach took over. Since then life as a driver has sucked big time. The safety program is a joke. I had always received safety bonuses from VanPak but not since Hirschback. I have no tickets or accidents and a clean record. When I hit the half million mark I was offered a t-shirt (never did get it, I wanted to burn it). We use to get a cash bonus for that many miles. if you make any error on your log book they take your safety bonus. It can be for an addition error. They could care less about their drivers. I am looking to get out and back into my previous field. have to finish my schooling and I am gone. Should be 6 months.
