Folks, let's get one thing straight.
Yes, the industry--indeed, this country--was built on those guys who ran 2 or 3 logbooks (if they ran 'em at all), lived on ditchwater coffee, evaded the scales and slept 15 minutes a month.
THOSE DAYS ARE OVER. PERIOD.
Do you have a Qualcomm or other satellite? Fuel card? Credit card? GPS? Cell phone? PrePass? You can be tracked. There are just too many ways for our Lords and Masters to figure out where you were and what you did.
The only way to go old-school, outlaw trucking these days is to run truly old-school. No GPS, PP, QC or cell phone. Pay cash for every single thing. And even then, most shippers and consignees have time stamps on everything now. You just ain't gonna get away with it. And is it worth it if you do? Running tired and fast, taking stupid chances, and donating so much time to evasive tactics that you wind up making less per real hour than working at Burger King?
I don't think so. That's just me. -

I wish some of these guys who have been busted and are sitting in jail or getting off their job @ burger king would speak up with some TRUE storiesBut I am sure they could care less to be on a trucker site to remind them of the misery they are living in now

Seriously though. I totally agree. it's near impossible to run like that these days. the very most you can do is........ ah never mind. Logs will just yell at me again for giving people ideas -
Yeah no giving ideas to these new guys and old guys. You just get them all messed up and then they say the lady in logs said I could when it was actually you telling them
Teach these guys how to run legal and make money! YES IT CAN BE DONE -
I've heardthat a black magic marker does a fine job of fixing that small inconvenience. Not that I would ever do some thing like that.

Altering documents is a BIG BIG NO NO! Instantly ticks them DOT Officers off, especially on the internal audit. OUCH, they yell at us if we pay you for that document (tolls, scales usually being the one's) and if we don't write you up for a major level.
DON'T USE WHITE OUT, WRITE YOUR NAME OVER A TIME REALLY HARD, DON'T USE THAT BLACK MARKER! OUch big big trouble

Adequate and regular sleep is necessary for health. I listened to a radio program about Parkinson's disease this week. It can be caused by fatigue and stress. Run hard and make money, but do not ruin your health in the process.
There were many former Willis Shaw drivers at Tri-State during VietNam. These guys had burned themselves out driving coast to coast solo before they hired on as Tri-State team drivers. One day when no ships were loading munitions, Tri-State dispatched about a dozen loads from their Louviers, CO terminal to Ft. Huachuca. My lead driver said that we should rush because Ft. Huachuca unloaded only four trucks per day. After unloading, we returned to the truckstop where the other teams had to lay over. I remember former Willis Shaw driver "Smoothie". He had to pop little white pills to stay awake while laying over.
On the other hand, I remember a post by a burned-out lady driver who quit the road. She said that she logged legal and it took six months before she recovered a normal sleep pattern. I thought, "You mean that you let Hours of Service rules ruin your sleep pattern and health?" Drivers need more discretion over their own sleep schedule. In my opinion, most log book falsification allows a driver to work when rested and sleep when tired. Bad laws are made to be broken.
