i've got one. Microsoft Streets and Trips. runs about $60 at Best Buy. I see no reason to get a "trucker GPS" for half a million dollars, because even with all the trucker stuff turned on, i've heard it will still lead you down non-truck roads, or low bridges, etc. So that moment it does that, it is no better than using mapquest.com.

another thing i use, DriverDailyLog.com. $100 program to run your logbook off your laptop. Keeps track of your 11 and 14 AND your 70. basicly does everything for ya. you just point, click, type in what you'd normally write in...and print it off on a swift logbook template. not to mention it will save your bacon if you're ever pulled around back of a chicken house. I've been asked a few times for my logbook, and as soon as they see its on my laptop, they've always said, "oh its on computer...then we dont need to see it. its good." so if it saves you from getting a $100 ticket....its already paid for itself.

oh...the other thing about microsoft S and T...you can set waypoints to exactly match your fuel route. =)

    Schmidtrock Thanks this.

ive used the gps for two weeks and so far loving it. not only for finding the shipper or consignee but for the miles it shows from point a and point b.another advantage is going through a major city it tells you which lanes to be in either left lanes or right lanes to be in to keep on your desired route i would recommended one:biggrin_25514:

i like it just for the fact that you can see how far away you are from your next turn, or being able to see street signs in the city at night in the rain.

however they are not without error. there are times it'll tell me an exit is a right hand exit...then i get up to it, and find its a left hand exit. Still gotta read the road signs.....it wont drive the truck for ya. (though i wish it would) =)

nope....it isnt a 'truck only' type software. Just the other day, our director of safety sent a qualcomm message saying GPS devices are prohibited in Swift trucks. So i shot off a message to her saying, "Trucks having encounters with low bridges isnt the fault of the GPS, its the fault of the driver not double checking their route with the directions and the motor carriers atlas. And even on rare instances, the atlas and the directions will lead us down non-commerical roads, so are we not to use them either?" Never did hear a word back from her.

trucks hit low bridges because the driver trusts the GPS 100% of the time....and that isnt the fault of the GPS....thats just plain lazy. I use the GPS...double check against directions (and i can set the GPS exactly TO the directions, double check against the atlas, and write the directions down on my window. And i dont roll the truck till i know exactly where i'm going. I'm not one of these dumb drivers who has to pull into rest areas or pull off on the side of an exit to check my map.

Also, i dont see any need to blow $600 in a truck stop for a Randy McNally GPS, when even with all the trucker stuff turned on, if it still will (and it will) send you down a low bridge road, its no better than mapquest. So spend the $70 on this software, and pocket the $500. =)

ive got a car gps spent 100 dollars on it.. like i stated before i always check my gps against the route and directions they send me first and go by swifts way first. i only use my gps only as a guide line so either 100 dollars or 600 dollars i use the directions from the qualcomm, but the gps has helped out alot like when i went to a shipper in charleston sc. that place was in bfe. lol
