Me too, actually I try to stay away from 1200, I won't cruise less than 1300 rpm, just me. -
The C 15 torque is flat from 900-1500 RPM~no peak torque.

I am not talking over rev. just say on a 2100 rpm truck, better to rev to1800- 1850 than to lug at 1100 1800 is not hard on a engine but luggin & slobbering & sooting the stack is. I would think. however I could be wrong.

what i meant by rpm range is useable, not cruise.. 1350 is a good economy number ..
there is simply no need to shift at such high rpm, all it does is burn extra fuel for minimal returns..
Lugging is when the engine falls off power and is struggling, such as is experienced at 1000 or lower rpm when a driver has failed to downshift appropriatley.
using 1500-1600 as an upshift point is generally workable for ALL Electronic motors. obviously differing loads and setups will require differing shift points, but unless your pulling a grade and cannot get the next gear up, there simply is no use in revving so high. -
O.K. agree. on my truck on a slight grade if I dont pull to 1700 min while upshifting in higher gears it falls on it's face & then I have to grab another lower gear. load. grade & engine make a difference on when to shift.

On the red headed step child of Cat, the bridge motor, 1200-1400 is not part of the workable rpm range. They really fall flat at 1400.

I tried to lug it down to 1200 rpms but it seem like a waste of time. Im in Pittsburgh and there are alot of hills around here. It seem like letting it go down that low is not an efficient way to drive my truck. I don't see how peak torque could be at 1200 rpms. If the peak was at 1200 rpms it would hold on the hills a 1200 rpms. It does hold all the way down to 1400 rpms depending on the grade.

I have a 94 5EK series and my shift range that works great on this engine 1200-1500 rpm. When pulling a hill heavy I'll run from 1500-1700 with the exhaust gases 650. And still get 6.8 average mpg. My cruise point is 1300-1450rpm.

It seems your real power range is from 1500 and up. When on a nice long grade to allow you engine to lug down to 1200 rpms with a heavy load seems like a wast of time to me, down shift let you truck breath and run.
