Been a while since I have had time to sit still and update. Went out with a mentor 10/14 for three days. He only ran 3-4 states on a regional route so I left his truck in favor of a mentor that runs 48 states. I got a new mentor 10/18 and have been burning up the road since. Got my 50 hours in as of 10/22 and look to start running team 10/25 or so. Sitting at the Edwardsville Terminal for the weekend under load and my mentor is getting some much needed home time. Out of here 10/24 at 20:00 or there abouts.

any time is good. Just wondering how many miles did you get running the regional route? I'd have just got my hours in, and get done with it. But running all 48...sure is nice to see different situations you face with backing, etc. I mean if the mentor was on a dedicated Costco account, after while, you aren't faced with any challenges....but the basics of backing never change....turn the wheel right to go left, etc.

Hey everybody... I'm in sunny Central California for the weekend. Headed out of Edwardsville on 10/24 after running into the Neil and Theresa from 735 and went to Oklahoma City. From there we went to Greeley, CO and on to Billings, MT. Had breakfast in Billings with Stephanie from my Road Training crew and on to Great Falls, Mt to pick up a load to deliver in Springfield, OR. Sitting under a load picked up in Eugene, OR delivering 11/01 in Bakersfield, CA.

We started running team status 10/25 but haven't gotten a true team load yet. Closest we got was an overnight run from Montana to Oregon. Hopefully we can get a good load out of Cali and get my hours up.

I have over 5,000 miles and over 100 hours in so far and can't wait to have my own truck. My mentor is great and we get along very well but I want my own space for my own stuff!!! He has actually gotten very bored these last few weeks as I have driven every hour I could. I can't believe they actually pay us to have this much fun!!!

For all those who are going to be where I am now, if your cell phone doesn't take good pictures bring a camera with you. You won't have time to sight-see but you will see some magnificent scenery along the way.

I'm in a 2008 Freightliner Columbia... doesn't ride as good as the ProStar I was in for the first 3 days but it has way more room and storage.

Hey Fewe. I just ran across your thread here. I've read it all.

It sure brings back some fond memories for me. I graduated M.S.Carriers Truck Driving Academy in Millington way back in Dec '00. Swift took over M.S. Carriers mid year 02.

I spent a lot of time there in Millington, TN. Do they still have camp set up on the old Naval Base? I'm not bragging...well maybe a little.... I graduated 2nd in my class of 63. It was great training.

Swift calls them Mentors but back then we called them Driver Trainers. I had two just like you. My first like yours was regional and I was required to go to New England and he refused to go so M.S. wouldn't let him train. My second hated showers. It was hard being in that truck with that stinky dude. At night he would open the curtain to ask where we was, when I was driving. The stinch coming out of the bunk was enough to make a person wretch. I didn't sleep much in that bunk so I got lots and lots of time behind the wheel. LOL.

Good luck to you if I can help you out just send me an email. I'm Dave and I live just across the river from Memphis in Jonesboro,AR. My email is dave_0755@yahoo.com. If anyone else wants to email me feel free to do so. I'm here to help anyone that needs/wants it. Good luck out there with your trucking career!!!
