ditto what Wedge said. You can buy a little notebook for under 400 bucks these days. That's more than enough to get you on here to post and view pages with a 13" screen. Check it out!

Looking to read your "report from the road". You and ORG really might consider getting your stuff put together as a booklet of some sort. Your experiences and histories are worth it to others here who are following.

You will read the same thing in previous posts from a couple people, so I'm not alone in this line of thinking.

    Enjoy your time...

I appreciate what Wedge and you are saying and I'm aware of what "replacing" my laptop would cost. But I've made no secret of the fact that I'm currently rebuilding my life and as such, I'm WAY behind on everything.

The old bank account isn't up to the task of getting caught up yet and I have to be very frugal with the funds. So if I can fix my laptop for a 100 bucks or so, I HAVE to go that way as I simply can't afford to spend more than that right now. Not to mention that pretty much my entire life is on that puppy. I bought a 500 gig external USB drive and was going to burn an image file of the whole system to it. Unfortunately, I never got the chance due to my running out there to get it done before this happened.

So, the FIRST thing I have to do is the cell phone and plan upgrade. If I can afford that, then at least I'll have the tools I need out there to cover all of this. I've learned that having an old plan with limited minutes, an old phone I have to "hold" while talking is both unsafe and VERY inconvenient for all the calls I have to make to shippers and receivers and the company. Not to mention all those folks I'm in debt to....:biggrin_25521:

Bit by bit, one step at a time and I'll get on top of all of this.....:biggrin_2556:...I think...LOL

Being that ORG and I have been playing phone tag and keep missing one another, I wonder how we could pull that off. I do like the idea but in this business, time is at a premium for sure. It would be fun to try though and I appreciate both the suggestion, and the fact that some of you out there think our experience(s) is worthy of sharing in that way.

Perhaps when we're both more efficient at all of this, the time will open up. To use my favorite expresion..."if there's one thing ya know...it's ya never know"...LOL

Chris-yes in time you will....I know from that life I had a few months back.......you just hit the road and are running great miles and hopefully that keeps up BUT you are also needing to get stuff for the truck and learning how to live, spend and SAVE on the road-not easy no matter how long you have been doing it!! As to the phone: I upgraded mine from just talk to talk/text/internet. Yes it cost more each month-but less than burning thru minutes and if you get some plan with free calls to your own carrier it helps too. (my last bill was PLUS $75 d/t overage minutes!!) Thing about OTR is now a days you really do NEED your cell to do your job and it's at your cost. The first few months for me (with the ex) were pretty costly getting him up and running but once he had the things he needed (not counting the wants.....sigh....a whole nutter story!!) he was okay (okay a WHOLE NUTTER story!!) :biggrin_25513:

I'm planning on the Sprint simply everything plan with the Droid phone and 4G network. It's 99 bucks (plus all the fees I'm sure) a month. but it's free and unlimited EVERYTHING from there so the carrier is included in that.

Speaking of which, I better start making calls to start all these balls rolling...LOL

I'll be doing most of my posting at night from here on out. I even have to delay my bike ride until Sunday I'm afraid. There just aren't enough hours in a day....:biggrin_2557:

Well I'm sure glad I started that process over THREE HOURS AGO!! MAN what a pain! LOL

Cut off in the middle 3 times so I had to go through everything over and over again. Turns out all I can afford is the Palm Pre which will work for now. Then I get told they can't overnight it to me...and then they can...:biggrin_25526:

This guy was so confused and had me the same way at several points. But I have the plan I wanted, not the phone but I'll likely upgrade that (at a store...lol) down the road. I made him assure me the phone would be overnighted and I'll have it in my hands tomorrow. We'll see.

Now I have to wait for them to call me back to "varify the order" and ship it. They better call fast! I've been with Nextel for like over 15 years now I think. If it weren't for the fact that I'd probably not "qualify" with another company, I'd have switched. It's amazing how they start to worry and stutter when I told them I was thinking about doing just that.....:biggrin_2559:

    My head hurts.....:biggrin_2556:....LOL

Glad you're getting the phone situation squared away. Everything takes time and lots of patience. As long as you have the important things taken care of you will be able to catch up on some of the other not so important ones later. Thanks for keeping all of us informed with your OTR life. It is always a good read. I have been away for a few days and it took me awhile to catch up on the thread. You have several who will never let your thread die.:biggrin_25525: Enjoy your time home as well as your bike ride.

LOL !! :biggrin_2559:Chris and your phone story! I know it well from MANY hours at the Verizon store with bad batteries ( 3) and then a bad phone/reception! Today I added a line to my current plan ( yeah you know who!!) and it was the easiest most pleasant experience! I actually got the supervisor to say the person who helped me was wonderful! Added the line got the cost and options for the future took all of 15 minutes as they had to a credit check.....why can't all the cell companies make it THAT easy!

I hope you get your phone and will you keep the same number (PM me!!) and I HOPE YOU GET OUT ON THE BIKE!!!!!

P.S. Son's of Anarchy okay you just know I like ''Jacks''.......:biggrin_25525:

Get the blu-tooth and the smart phone before the laptop! You'll love using features such as google maps to see a satelite image of what you're going to be delivering to when you're still 1,200 miles away from the customer!

I was also running as a rebel just because I didnt want to spend the 70 bucks on a blu-tooth, but ever since I've bought it I had to increase my minutes since chatting to friends is so much easier and safer now while driving.
