I had a week or more of short runs,up and down the east coast and east coast to the midwest.Best week I ever had moneywise (1100.00) gross of course on 2600 miles those little runs add up! I was a tired mofo that week tho,but everything with the planners just clicked.Like others have said keep up your mac 10,theres been times with 3-4 hrs left i'm thinking i won't get planned and sure enough the phone beeps(load alert to phone) then the qcomm goes off, tada! i say that all the time. i'm just as happy with 5-100 mile runs than i would be with 1-500 mile run. Not to mention i'd get paid more with the sliding scale anyway. AND i'm kept busy. My DM knows i want to run, and if he sees memphis planning me over the weekend with junk runs (saving all the good ones for "their" drivers) he'll get me a few 400+ mi runs for the next week. but yeah...you're out earning money running one of your 5 100 mile runs, while joe blow is on his 2nd pack of cigarettes complaining why he's been sitting for 2 days. (ooops sorry Injun....i thru the drivers sex in there again. should have just said "the driver" huh)... :biggrin_25525:

Some of the best money I have made has been on little short runs. Granted being an OO I am in a totally different set of shoes, but when I was running for Yellowstone Trucking, there were a couple of times where I moved 1 crate from one side of an airport to another and made 600.00 for it. Simply because no one else wanted to screw with it. I also got paid a grand to run a 14 wide oversize from Everett Wa to Sea Tac Airport. Took them less than 15 minutes to have me loaded, less than 30 to have me empty and the drive took 45. In fact it took less time to pull the load than it did to get the permit.

I have no problem running short hauls, they can add up really fast, and if you play your cards right, it isnt hard to find ones that pay 3-10.00 a mile depending on how far they are going.

This is where the big companies like swift screw them selves, when they pay drivers by the mile, drivers do not have the incentive to do the short hauls because they know the more then can keep the left door closed the more money they can make.

If they paid thier drivers apercentage of what the truck makes, drivers would be more incined to do the short hauls, but then again that would cause a whole different kind of problem because then drivers would actually know how much money the truck actually was making.
