I LOVE my acert would not trade it. I had a 12.7 Det. in my 1st truck it was a 95 it run good but I would take a pre dpf cat over a Det. anyday!
And to chose between a T-6 and Freightliner IMO there is not any thinking to do there either. I like KW and Cats!!! But that would be my choice.
You better be concerned about repair and fuel cost! That is where you make your money.

I have heard a lot of good comments about the DD15, Detroit has a bunch of videos with trucking company executives talking about the engine, no talking heads, just trucking companies that buy a lot of trucks to make money.
There is also etrucker trucking magazine, on line they have articles, and ratings on their.
I worked on engines all my life, the N14 and the 90's 12.7 were great engines as was the 3406B their day is done.
You have to decide what you want, big yellow, power and lots of chrome, or a truck that will make you money.
    Just a thought!

Maintenance hogs; Their EGR's cost twice versus the normal cummins and Detroit or cat. Also Volvo has a limited dealer network unlike most shops which repair a detroit, cummins or cat. Finally, getting parts can be very hard and time consuming.

No engine problems, but the camshaft followers have started leaking. (again) I've owned it over 5 years and i have a strict maintenance plan on it. 14k oil changes and belts every 2 years whether it needs them or not. Alternator as well. Flush/fill coolant. I have also rebuilt the horton fan clutch this year.

Filters are cheap, can be found just about anywhere. Injectors can also be changed in about 1 hour. (I've done it.. I carry a spare injector and torque wrench) Replaced 2 in 5 years.

That's all I want in my truck. Engine/ Transmission and steering wheel. Don't want non of that EGR stuff. :biggrin_25513:

    Hey DL550CAT,
What do you set aside for maintenance and what have been your approx annual maintenance costs since you've owned the truck? If I do go with the CAT engine, I want to get the CAT ESC warranty, which it looks like CAT will cover up to 800,000 miles. I'll have to see if what they cover will be worth the cost. Thanks for your advice. Also, what are getting for MPG?

I do not really want something as old as a 2003, which I would have to do if I wanted pre-egr. Unless I got lucky and found a 2004, which seem to be harder to find without the EGR.
Thus I am stuck looking at emission engines.
This rules out CAT, Mercedes, Volvo, Mack.
Thus when looking at 2005-6 trucks I am looking mostly at Cummins and some Detroit's.
Then I have to look at available warranty's. Most do not cover much. And not many at all cover EGR components.
But I noticed that the Freightliner Select trucks warranties do.
They have a 6 month bumper to bumper, and I can get trucks with a 2 year 200,000 mile warranty that will cover most issues. Including the EGR system.
Which is my biggest concern. But this limits me to detroit engines.
I am still playing with the idea, really not that big of a freightshaker fan. But if it makes me money I could do it.

I honestly would like to know if PAC Lease has a good warranty on used trucks like select trucks does with freightliner.
